Dump Trump: Why the Anti-War Movement Must Oppose Trump!
Meredith Aby-Keirstead, member of the MN Anti-War Committee, will give these remarks at the March on the RNC in Cleveland, Ohio on July 18th, 2016
Thank you. I’m happy to be here with all of you to protest Trump at the 2016 RNC!
Donald Trump represents a threat – not only to the American people – but to the people of the world. Even though he doesn’t have a foreign policy track record to examine, one doesn’t have to look far to see what type of danger he would be. Trump’s “America first” and Islamophobic messages are fostering a climate that encourages people to support aggressive and militaristic foreign policy.
He has called for a more militarized border wall with Mexico, a closed border for Muslims, an escalation of attacks on ISIS in Iraq and Syria, and an increase in hostility towards China – all of which lead to a climate of Islamophobia, xenophobia and national chauvinism that threaten people of color at home and encourage the American people to think of our neighbor Mexico, the Middle East and China as threats when in fact it is Trump who is threatening them.
Many in the anti-war movement understand the dangers of a Clinton presidency, but it is important that peace activists not be tricked by Trump’s occasional isolationist promises on the campaign trail. Donald Trump as a candidate promotes brutal attacks on Muslims at home and abroad and we need to oppose him! Trump promotes hatred of Mexicans at home and abroad and we need to oppose him! Trump represents a bully on the interpersonal and international level and we must oppose him!
I look forward to marching with all of you in the streets to oppose Trump together! From Minnesota to Ohio we say Dump Trump!
