Open letter to Senator Klobuchar: We see you

We see you, Senator.

We see you: photographed standing behind Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to the U.S. last week. You’re smiling. You look proud to be there.

The Palestinian death toll in Gaza has reached nearly 60,000. Netanyahu’s Israel still murders dozens every day, bombing refugee tents, schools, and hospitals, and shooting civilians desperately seeking food and water at aid distribution sites.

American military contractors take part in these near-daily massacres at distribution sites. Run by the American-led so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation,” the sites violate basic tenets of how humanitarian aid must be delivered in a warzone. The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor explains that the GHF “actually serves as a field cover for policies of siege, starvation, and killing” and manages aid “in a way that reinforces starvation as a weapon, while providing private security protection for designated killing zones.”

Gazans refer to these killing zones simply as “the American aid sites.” These humanitarian travesties are forever inscribed in history in America’s name. (Along with the billions in military aid.)

Public support for Palestine is still growing. More than half of U.S. adults now view Israel unfavorably. Nearly three-quarters support a permanent ceasefire in Gaza – which Netanyahu has continually sabotaged. Even among Republicans, only around 50 percent support Netanyahu’s renewed assault on Gaza.

We know you’ve been a longstanding supporter of Israel. It’s clear your priority is not to represent your everyday constituents when between 2019-2024, you received $127,150 from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and a career total of $769,375 from the pro-Israel lobby.

We’ve protested your standing ovations for Netanyahu before. It’s clear that you aren’t interested in representing Minnesotans. Sooner or later, there will be political consequences for Netanyahu’s enablers. A genocide is not a media cycle that people forget when the spotlight shifts. It’s an inescapable truth, a mirror that reflects one’s real values for all to see.

Netanyahu’s unbridled cruelty is clearly a model for Trump. You are supposed to represent opposition to Trump, not stand behind one of his biggest champions on the world scene. Israel’s total disregard for basic humanity is coming to America if we don’t stop it.

Signed,

The Minnesota Anti-War Committee

Call Klobuchar now and simply tell her: “Standing with war criminal Netanyahu does not represent my Minnesotan values. End U.S. aid to Israel now!”
