Action Alert: Ground the Drones

Last week human rights groups confronted the Obama administration’s claims that civilians are not significantly affected by US drone strikes in Pakistan and Yemen. Their reports concur with a UN human rights investigator report which documented that 4-600 civilians have been killed in drone strikes over the past 10 years in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Yemen.

The Washington Post reported that President Obama responded that, “drones would be used only against people who pose a “continuing, imminent threat” to the United States and only in cases in which the avoidance of civilian casualties would be“a near-certainty.”

And Caitlin Hayden, a White House spokeswoman, defended the administration with, “As the President emphasized, the use of lethal force, including from remotely piloted aircraft, commands the highest level of attention and care.”

Take Action:

Call President Obama at  202-456-1111  and your members of Congress at  202-224-3121  to say NO to US drone strikes in Pakistan, Yemen and Afghanistan.  Demand that the US end the use of a “kill list” and the use of drones for extra-judicial killings.
