As the U.S. prepares to escalate the war in Afghanistan: Say No to Escalation. Out of Afghanistan! Bring the Troops Home Now!
Wednesday April 8 2009 • 5–6 pm @ Lake Street – Marshall Avenue Bridge (spanning the Mississippi River between Minneapolis and St. Paul)
The U.S. government has announced plans to send an additional 21,000 U.S. troops to Afghanistan. News reports indicate 10,000 additional troops may be sent later in the year. The war in Afghanistan has never been the “good war”; it has never been about fighting terrorism, but has always been an effort to increase U.S. military and political domination in the region. More troops will not bring peace and justice or development, but only more destruction. An overwhelming number of Afghans support an Afghan political solution without outside interference. April 6 to 9, there will be vigils, protests and other anti-war events in cities across the U.S. to speak out against the escalation of the U.S. war in Afghanistan, to call for an end to the U.S. war and for the troops to be brought home now. Join the Wednesday Peace Vigil on the Lake Street/ Marshall Avenue bridge to be part of this national speak out against escalation and war.
