Call Congress to Demand Action on Immigrant Concentration Camps!
Issued by the Minnesota Refugee Support/Legislative Committee of the MN Caravan Solidarity (which the Anti-War Committee is a member of) on July 5, 2019
The conditions suffered by immigrants and asylum seekers on the border and in detention centers have reached crisis proportions, as noted by recent congressional delegations and visits from Democratic candidates for the Presidency.
Senator Tina Smith visited the border months ago. She has been a strong advocate for DACA. But she should visit the border again and make a strong public statement about the conditions.
Senator Amy Klobuchar visited a detention center in Florida before the debate, but she has not made a strong public statement about what she saw.
So far, none of our Representatives has visited the border nor made any public statements about the plight of the men, women, and children being held there.
None of Minnesota’s congressional members has called for the decriminalization of crossing the border.
Call both senators and your representative on Monday demanding that they support decriminalization and asking them to visit the border stations and/or detention centers, then make a public statement about the conditions there.
