SUMMARY:Human Rights Day Protest
DESCRIPTION:Human Rights Day Protest\n\n\nTuesday\, December 10th @ 4:30 pm outside of Senator Klobuchar’s office\, 1200 S Washington Ave (Washington Ave & 35W)\, Minneapolis\n\n\n \n\n\nWe will rally at Senator Klobuchar’s office followed by a march to May Day Books at 301 Cedar Ave. S. where we will have a closing rally inside. Together we will draw attention to US human rights abuses at home and abroad on December 10th – Human Rights Day. The US uses the language of human rights to impose sanctions on Iran\, Venezuela\, and Cuba. Meanwhile Trump has denied thousands of asylum seekers their human rights at the US-Mexico border. Trump has used hate speech against Muslims in the United States and banned them from entering from war torn countries. And the U.S. government continuously refuses to act in support of the basic human rights to education\, healthcare\, housing and work. Lastly\, people of color are targeted by police and killed at an outrageous rate in their own communities. This comes on top of longstanding US wars and interventions\, which NEVER bring human rights. Instead\, they brutally subject the people’s of the world to occupation and instability\, while stealing their natural resources and suppressing their rights to self-determination. We see this clearly in Bolivia this month where the U.S. is supporting a coup! And we see it in Palestine\, where the U.S. encourages illegal annexations for Israeli settlers\, and funds the violent siege of Gaza. Join with us to demand respect for human rights at home and abroad! \n\n\n \n\n\nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Protest Trump & the Republican Party's Bigotry
DESCRIPTION:Protest Trump & the Republican Party’s Bigotry\nSunday\, November 10th @ noon @ the MN GOP Headquarters\, 7400 Metro Blvd\, Edina\, MN \n\nTrump lies lead to a rise in hate crimes in every county where he held a campaign rally in 2016. Statics show that hate crimes doubled compared to other counties\, and it’s because his blatantly hateful rhetoric is designed to incite violence and further racist and xenophobic views.\n\nOn October 10th Trump came to MN and had a hate rally. The MN Republican Party not only hosted him but have been silent as he attacked the immigrant and refugee communities that are a part of MN. We will take our protest to the MN GOP headquarters one month later to hold them accountable! \n\n\n\n\nJoin us to protest the violence the president inflicts on our communities from the White House but also how he incites his supporters to commit violence!\n\n\n\nNo Ban! No Wall! Legalization for All!\n\n\nImmigrants and Muslims are Welcome in MN – Not Trump!\nSay NO to Anti-Muslim Bigotry!\n\nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Tell Gov Walz to Stop Funding Border Walls!
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, September 16th @ 5:30 pm \nPicket outside the Governor’s Mansion\, 1006 Summit Ave\, St. Paul on the anniversary of the Sabra and Shatila massacres in Palestine \nThe MN State Board of Investments\, which Gov. Walz chairs\, holds $1.2 million in shares in Elbit Systems. Elbit Systems is Israel’s largest weapons company\, and is currently under contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to build a 53-tower “Integrated Fixed Towers” security project on the US-Mexico border. Continuing to invest in Elbit Systems perpetuates a system of militarization of the border and the resulting deaths of migrants trying to cross.  \nElbit Systems’ border militarization technology was also deployed against the Palestinian people. 95% of their sales come from weapons alone. They are currently the world’s leading exporter of military and surveillance drones. Elbit also makes cluster munitions and white phosphorus shells – both of which are banned under international law. \nJoin us to tell Gov. Walz Elbit Systems should be disqualified as a candidate for the investment of retirement funds for the State of Minnesota. #BDS #MNDivestfromElbit \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:Minnesota SBI: Divest from border militarization company Elbit!
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota SBI: Divest from border militarization company Elbit!\n\nThursday\, August 22nd from 9:30 AM – 12 PM @ Minnesota State Capitol\, 75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd\, Saint Paul\n\nDivest from border militarization – divest from Elbit Systems!  Join us at the August 22 Minnesota State Board of Investments (SBI) meeting to demand that Minnesota divest it’s holdings from border militarization company Elbit Systems. We’ll gather at 9:30 a.m. in the State Capitol Rotunda before the 10:00 a.m. SBI meeting. The SBI meeting is in G23 Senate Committee Room at the State Capitol\, 75 Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.\, St. Paul\, MN 55155Currently Minnesota’s State Board of Investments holds $1.2 million of shares in Elbit Systems. Elbit Systems is Israel’s largest weapons manufacturer\, which is currently under contract with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to build a 53-tower “Integrated Fixed Towers” security project. Weapon sales are 95% of its business. Continuing to invest in Elbit Systems perpetuates a system of militarization of the US-Mexico border and the resulting death of migrants trying to cross the border. Border militarization includes armed border patrol agents\, checkpoints\, drones\, surveillance towers\, thousands of miles of fences and walls. Border militarization causes suffering and death to families who are fleeing violence and famine in their home countries\, while companies around the world which form the massive military-industrial complex profit. Elbit is one such company. A fictional crisis created by racist fear mongering is being used to give taxpayer money to corporate interests. Minnesota should not invest money in this! \n \n**WHAT CAN YOU DO?  Demand the MN State Board of Investments DIVEST from Elbit Systems.  Contact the members of the MN State Board of Investments to request that they support divestment decision at their August 22nd meeting: \n\nGovernor Tim Walz\, Chair—651-201-3400 \nState Auditor Julie Blaha—(651) 296-2551 \nAttorney General Keith Ellison—(651) 296-3353 \nSecretary of State Steve Simon—secretary.state@state.mn.us\n\nAnd join us at the State Board of Investment (SBI) Board Meeting to demand that Minnesota divest from border militarization – divest from Elbit!\n\nCohosted by the Anti-War Committee and the MN Immigrant Rights Action Committee.

We feel the next couple of weeks are key. Trump’s attempt at a coup in Venezuela has not worked out and they are scrambling to figure out what to do. We want to use this bannering to 1. educate people that this is a US orchestrated coup and 2. to show opposition to Trump’s agenda. At the end of the action we will also give folks an update on the peace process situation in neighboring Colombia. Please share this event & invite others to join us!\n\nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee and endorsed by WAMM.

SUMMARY:BDS at the State Capitol
DESCRIPTION:BDS at the State Capitol\n\nThursday\, May 30th fromt 9:45 AM – 12 PM @ Minnesota State Capitol\, 75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd\, Saint Paul\, Minnesota 55155\nBDS supporters are going to the next State Board of InvestmentI meeting on May 30\, 2019 at 10:00 am in the State Capitol Room G23 in St. Paul to ask them to divest from several companies. The State Board of Investment (SBI) has been investing your tax dollars in companies like: Elbit Systems – manufacturer of drones\, weapons systems\, ammunition and surveillance systems\, all “battle-tested” (meaning tested out on captive Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank). The weapons are sold around the world to countries which violate human rights. The surveillance equipment is being sold to the US for use at the US/Mexico border. Bezeq Telecom Co. – which provides telecommunications equipment to the illegal settlements\, checkpoints and army bases in the West Bank and Golan Heights. Palestinian telecom companies must use the Israeli infrastructure and Israel does not allow more than 3G networks for Palestinians. Bank Hapoalim\, Bank Leumi and Mizrahi Tefahot Bank – these banks are heavily involved in illegal settlement construction\, including infrastructure development and home mortgages. We think the State of Minnesota should not be involved in companies like these\, which flagrantly violate international law. The SBI’s investment guidelines should prohibit such investments. There will be four speakers who will present facts and make our requests. The rest of us are there to show support and solidarity\, to tweet\, write letters to the editor\, and report on how the Board reacts. If you would like to carpool or need a ride\, please reply to mn@breakthebonds.org and let me know your needs. We will try to accommodate you. Minnesota Break the Bonds Campaign is working with allied organizations including Middle East Peace Now (MEPN)\, Jewish Voice for Peace-Twin Cities (JVP-TC)\, American Muslims for Palestine (AMP)\, Students for Justice in Palestine-UMN (SJP-UMN)\, Women Against Military Madness-Middle East Committee (WAMM-ME)\, and a lot more (together we are called the MN BDS Community) on this campaign.  Organized by Women Against Military Madness.

SUMMARY:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen
DESCRIPTION:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen \nWednesday\, 12/5 – Thursday\, 12/6 ALL DAY \nCALL IN DAY! Tell Senators Amy Klobuchar & Tina Smith: “Stop the War on Yemen! End U.S. Aid and Weapons Sales to Saudi Arabia!” \nTina Smith: 202-224-5641 \nAmy Klobuchar: 202-224-3244 \nThe Intercept reports on November 29th “In a firm rebuke of President Donald Trump’s Saudi Arabia policy\, the Republican-controlled Senate voted 63-37 on Wednesday to advance a piece of legislation that would direct the president to withdraw U.S. forces from assisting the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen.” \nThe Mint Press reports that since 2015\, “the ongoing Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen has resulted in the death of 15\,185 civilians\, including 3\,527 children and 2\,277 women\, according to the Legal Center for Rights and Development in Yemen.” Civilians have been facing a serious humanitarian crisis due to a Saudi blockade of food and medical aid which has led the Yemeni people to live in widespread famine. The U.S. continues to provide support and sell arms to Saudi forces who have targeted everything from markets\, to schools\, school busses and homes\, all while refusing to denounce the inhumanity that has claimed so many civilian casualties.   \nThe murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul\, has caught the international community’s attention and given us an opportunity to kick up our challenge to the US-Saudi Arabia war in Yemen.  The Congress is finally questioning supporting this war – they NEED TO HEAR FROM US! Please call and encourage others to do so too! \nInitiated by the MN Anti-War Committee.
