Speak out to welcome Honduran refugees! \nThursday\, December 20th @ 5pm outside Senator Klobuchar’s office at 1200 S Washington Ave\, Minneapolis (at the intersection of 35W and Washington Ave.)\nSenator Amy Klobuchar has announced that she is thinking of running for president. She is projecting herself as someone who is open to ‘compromises’ and that she is open to voting to partially fund Trump’s racist border wall. Congress will be voting again soon on a budget deal and we need to tell Klobuchar that not one penny should go to border militarization. We’ll be picketing in front of her office at the busy intersection of 35W and Washington Ave. Join us to say:\nWe welcome Honduran refugees!\nNo border wall!\nRefugees are welcome here!\nNo troops on the border!\nCo-Sponsored by MN Caravan Solidarity and the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen
DESCRIPTION:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen \nWednesday\, 12/5 – Thursday\, 12/6 ALL DAY \nCALL IN DAY! Tell Senators Amy Klobuchar & Tina Smith: “Stop the War on Yemen! End U.S. Aid and Weapons Sales to Saudi Arabia!” \nTina Smith: 202-224-5641 \nAmy Klobuchar: 202-224-3244 \nThe Intercept reports on November 29th “In a firm rebuke of President Donald Trump’s Saudi Arabia policy\, the Republican-controlled Senate voted 63-37 on Wednesday to advance a piece of legislation that would direct the president to withdraw U.S. forces from assisting the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen.” \nThe Mint Press reports that since 2015\, “the ongoing Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen has resulted in the death of 15\,185 civilians\, including 3\,527 children and 2\,277 women\, according to the Legal Center for Rights and Development in Yemen.” Civilians have been facing a serious humanitarian crisis due to a Saudi blockade of food and medical aid which has led the Yemeni people to live in widespread famine. The U.S. continues to provide support and sell arms to Saudi forces who have targeted everything from markets\, to schools\, school busses and homes\, all while refusing to denounce the inhumanity that has claimed so many civilian casualties.   \nThe murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul\, has caught the international community’s attention and given us an opportunity to kick up our challenge to the US-Saudi Arabia war in Yemen.  The Congress is finally questioning supporting this war – they NEED TO HEAR FROM US! Please call and encourage others to do so too! \nInitiated by the MN Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Say NO to US Intervention in Venezuela: Featuring Steve Ellner
DESCRIPTION:Say NO to US Intervention in Venezuela:  Featuring Steve Ellner\nSaturday\, November 10th at 5pm @ 4200 Cedar Avenue S. in Minneapolis\nThe Trump administration has Venezuela in its sights.  The Trump administration has banned visitors from through the Muslim ban\, place economic sanctions\, and is opening planning a coup of Venezuela.  Trumps wants to punish Venezuela for choosing a different path from US imperialism.  Meanwhile the US media talks about US intervention as if it would be “humanitarian” for the people of Venezuela.  \nSteve Ellner has taught economic history and political science at the Universidad de Oriente in Puerto La Cruz\, Venezuela since 1977.  He is on a national speaking tour to help the anti-war and the Latin America solidarity movement learn about the realities on the ground in Venezuela.  \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee and co-sponsored by the MN Immigrant Action Committee\, MN Peace Action Coalition\, & Women Against Military Madness.

SUMMARY:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen
DESCRIPTION:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen\nThursday\, November 1st – ALL DAY\nCALL IN DAY! Tell Senators Amy Klobuchar & Tina Smith: “Stop the War on Yemen! End U.S. Aid and Weapons Sales to Saudi Arabia!”\nTina Smith: 202-224-5641\nAmy Klobuchar: 202-224-3244 \nWe need to act now to oppose U.S. military aid and their support to Saudi Forces in the endless bombing assault on Yemen. With Saudi authorities now admitting to the October 2 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul\, Saudi Arabia’s atrocities are finally making mainstream news. Unfortunately\, we know these admissions aren’t meant to bring real accountability to the Saudi monarchy or its US political and corporate backers. Instead\, the Trump regime’s fake criticism of Saudi leaders is designed to draw attention from US support for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing brutal war on Yemen. Since 2015\, “the ongoing Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen has resulted in the death of 15\,185 civilians\, including 3\,527 children and 2\,277 women\, according to the Legal Center for Rights and Development in Yemen.” Civilians have been facing a serious humanitarian crisis due to a Saudi blockade of food and medical aid which has led the Yemeni people to live in widespread famine. DESCRIPTION:Call Congress:  Say NO to Sanctions on Iran! \nTuesday and Wednesday\, August 21 and 22 \n  \n\nSenator Tina Smith (202- 224-5641) \n\n\nSenator Amy Klobuchar (202-224-3244) \n\n  \n  \nThe Trump administration re-imposed sanctions against Iran on August 7th.  It is important to look at this action within the broader context of increasing antagonism by the U.S. towards Iran.  Particularly\, Trump has withdrawn the U.S. from participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)\, commonly known as the Iran Nuclear Deal\, and has met frequently with the Prime Minister of Israel who repeatedly calls for U.S. military aggression against Iran.   \n  \nThe U.S. also intervenes in the lives of Iranians by sabotaging Iran economically through sanctions.  These sanctions are collective punishment and are meant to push CIA-supported forces towards overthrowing the Iranian government.   Trump’s ban against Iranians wishing to travel and live in the U.S.\, another act of collective punishment\, is an anti-Muslim provocation.  The sanctions and the Muslim ban are part of\, and support\, the increasing military threats by the Trump administration. \n  \nPlease call Senator Tina Smith (202- 224-5641) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (202-224-3244) to tell them to resist Trump’s sanctions against Iran.  Demand that they take a stand against U.S. war and intervention on Iran.  They are both up for re-election and we should let them know that their foreign policy positions are important to us! \n  \nWe also encourage you to ask both Senators Smith and Klobuchar at the MN State Fair about their lack of resistance to Trump’s threats on Iran!

SUMMARY:Civil Disobedience Training
DESCRIPTION:Civil Disobedience Training\nWednesday\, August 15th @ 7pm @ 4200 Cedar Ave. Minneapolis\nWe have been protesting Trump’s racist Muslim ban since January 2017. This summer the Supreme Court sided with him and gave him the power to restrict countries under the pretext of “national security.” It is immoral to block refugees entry to the US when the US is escalating wars in their country. The Muslim ban is a life or death issue to people in places like Somalia\, Yemen\, and Syria! If you are interested in increasing the level of militancy of our movement against Trump and want to learn how to participate in a civil disobedience action please come to one of our trainings. Organized by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Emergency Bannering: Stop US Support for Israeli Massacres!
DESCRIPTION:Emergency Bannering: Stop US Support for Israeli Massacres!\nTuesday\, 4/10 from 5:30-6:30 pm outside Senator Amy Klobuchar’s Office\, 1200 Washington Avenue South\, Minneapolis\, MN 55415\n\nApril 9th marks the 70th anniversary of Deir Yassin\, the Palestinian village where in 1948 100 men\, women\, and children were systematically murdered by Israeli commandos. Every year Palestinians across the world mark Deir Yassin and demand the right to return to their homeland. This year however Deir Yassin coincides with a growing resistance movement in Gaza and an ongoing brutal Israeli military response. Join us to stand in solidarity with Palestine and to demand an end to U.S. support for Israel’s war crimes! As the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights explains\, “The tragedy lies not only in the killing of Palestinians\, but in the responses of Israel and the United States to this massacre…The message that Israel and the United States have sent is that Palestinian lives are dispensable\, unworthy of any investigation\, even when it is clear that their lives were taken unlawfully. …This is why the time has come for an arms embargo and sanctions against apartheid Israel\, similar to the arms embargo that was imposed by the United Nations against apartheid South Africa.” Let’s send a message to the MN Congressional delegation of support for a Free Palestine! \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee. \n

SUMMARY:Palestine Land Day Protest
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 30th from 5-6pm at the intersection of Summit and Snelling in St. Paul \nOn March 30\, Palestinians around the world will commemorate Land Day\, a day in 1976 when Israeli military forces shot and killed 6 young Palestinian. These brave youth were among thousands protesting the Israeli government’s expropriation of Palestinian land. \nThis Land Day will again see Palestinians across the world protest for the right to return and for freedom for their homeland. This year the world’s attention to the plight of Palestinians has been heightened because of the international movement in solidarity with Ahed Tamimi. \nOn December 19\, 2017\, 16-year-old Ahed Tamimi was arrested by Israeli occupation troops when they raided her house in the middle of the night. She remains detained indefinitely and is accused of having slapped an IDF soldier while attempting to defend herself\, her family and her country. \nOver 12\,000 Palestinian children have been arrested since 2000! No child should be thrown into a military prison without a fair trial\, denied access to parents or lawyers\, and be subjected to abuse. Join with us on Land Day to say Free Palestine and Free Ahed Tamimi! \nCo-sponsored by the WAMM Middle East Committee and the Anti-War Committee

Tammy Duckworth\, December 2017 \nWe need to act now to oppose the U.S. government and its senseless threats of war against North Korea.  North and South Korea are struggling to honor the tradition of the Olympics as a time of truce by taking steps towards reconciliation through a unified Olympics team and flag\, and towards a thawing of hostilities.  Meanwhile\, the U.S. continues to do everything it can to block potential peace by maintaining  and expanding threats of war against North Korea. Korea has a right to self-determination. DESCRIPTION:What’s Behind U.S. War-Threats on North Korea? \nPublic forum: \nWhat’s Behind U.S. War-Threats on North Korea? \nTuesday\, October 24th 7:00 PM\n Law School Mondale Hall Room 50 (UMN West Bank) | 229 19th Ave S\, Minneapolis\, MN 55455 \nFeaturing: \nSharon Chung\,\n Korean Education & Exposure Program (KEEP) \nChristine Ahn\n Founder and International Coordinator of Women Cross the DMZ\, co-founder of Korea Policy Institute\, Korea Peace Network and Korean Americans for Fair Trade. She is a policy analyst with expertise on Korea\, globalization\, militarism and women’s rights. \nRoy Wolff\n Member\, Veterans for Peace (chapter 21)\, U.S. Army veteran\, stationed in South Korea for 16 months (1955-57). This maneuvering by the U.S. is seen by North Korea as an ongoing threat to its national sovereignty. For North Korea\, the Korean War (1950-1953) has never ended and the U.S. has refused to ever sign a peace treaty to end it. \nTrump’s menacing statements against North Korea\, cannot be seen as idle threats. After the Korean War\, US Air Force General\, Curtis LeMay boasted that\, “we . . . eventually burned down every town in North Korea” and “over a period of three years or so we killed off\, what\, 20 percent of the population of Korea”. \nNow\, senator Lindsey Graham discusses war on North Korea as harmless to the rest of the world: “If there’s going to be a war\, it will be over there. If thousands die\, they’re going to die over there. They’re not going to die here.” \nTrump’s escalating war threats point to a renewed Korean war and a new act of genocide that will not only impact the Korean people but the people of the world as well. Come for a discussion on the history of U.S. military involvement on the Korean Peninsula\, and why U.S. war there should be opposed.
