SUMMARY:Protest: #HandsOffKorea
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 22nd @ 4:30 PM @ Amy Klobuchar’s Office\, 1200 Washington Ave S\, Minneapolis \nDemand that she take action to stop the U.S. from hurling itself towards catastrophic war with Korea! \n“Most Americans don’t realize how close we are to this war…” \n-Sen. Tammy Duckworth\, December 2017 \nWe need to act now to oppose the U.S. government and its senseless threats of war against North Korea.  North and South Korea are struggling to honor the tradition of the Olympics as a time of truce by taking steps towards reconciliation through a unified Olympics team and flag\, and towards a thawing of hostilities.  Meanwhile\, the U.S. continues to do everything it can to block potential peace by maintaining  and expanding threats of war against North Korea. Korea has a right to self-determination. The Trump regime needs to stand down\, end U.S. war preparations  on the Korean peninsula and not add the deaths of millions of Koreans to the administration’s already bloody tally.

SUMMARY:What's Behind U.S. War Threats on North Korea?
DESCRIPTION:What’s Behind U.S. War-Threats on North Korea? \nPublic forum: \nWhat’s Behind U.S. War-Threats on North Korea? \nTuesday\, October 24th 7:00 PM\n Law School Mondale Hall Room 50 (UMN West Bank) | 229 19th Ave S\, Minneapolis\, MN 55455 \nFeaturing: \nSharon Chung\,\n Korean Education & Exposure Program (KEEP) \nChristine Ahn\n Founder and International Coordinator of Women Cross the DMZ\, co-founder of Korea Policy Institute\, Korea Peace Network and Korean Americans for Fair Trade. She is a policy analyst with expertise on Korea\, globalization\, militarism and women’s rights. \nRoy Wolff\n Member\, Veterans for Peace (chapter 21)\, U.S. Army veteran\, stationed in South Korea for 16 months (1955-57). Local writer and speaker on peace and anti-war issues. Has travelled to both North and South Korea in the years since he was in the U.S. Army. \nSponsored by: Minnesota Peace Action Coalition & Students for a Democratic Society. \nCo-sponsored by: Anti-War Committee\, Mayday Books\, Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee\, Twin Cities Peace Campaign\, Women Against Military Madness\, Veterans for Peace and others. \nFor more information 612 275-2720 or 612 827-5364. \nThe U.S. has carried out war threats against North Korea for years and has occupied the Korean peninsula with thousands of U.S. troops since the 1950s. This maneuvering by the U.S. is seen by North Korea as an ongoing threat to its national sovereignty. For North Korea\, the Korean War (1950-1953) has never ended and the U.S. has refused to ever sign a peace treaty to end it. \nTrump’s menacing statements against North Korea\, cannot be seen as idle threats. After the Korean War\, US Air Force General\, Curtis LeMay boasted that\, “we . . . eventually burned down every town in North Korea” and “over a period of three years or so we killed off\, what\, 20 percent of the population of Korea”. \nNow\, senator Lindsey Graham discusses war on North Korea as harmless to the rest of the world: “If there’s going to be a war\, it will be over there. If thousands die\, they’re going to die over there. They’re not going to die here.” \nTrump’s escalating war threats point to a renewed Korean war and a new act of genocide that will not only impact the Korean people but the people of the world as well. Come for a discussion on the history of U.S. military involvement on the Korean Peninsula\, and why U.S. war there should be opposed.

SUMMARY:STOP U.S. WAR THREATS - No U.S. War on North Korea
DESCRIPTION:STOP U.S. WAR THREATS – No U.S. War on North Korea \nWednesday\, September 6\, 2017 \n5:00 – 6:00 pm \nLake Street/Marshall Avenue Bridge \n(Spanning the river between Minneapolis and St. Paul) \nThe organizers of a weekly peace vigil on the Lake Street Marshall Ave Bridge between Minneapolis and St. Paul have issued a call for the Wednesday\, September 6th vigil to speak out against the growing danger of a U.S. war in Korea. The vigil lasts from 5:00 to 6:00 PM \nThose participating  will hold signs and banners speaking out against a new U.S. war. \nA statement issued by organizers says in part\, “The war crisis in Korea remains at a boiling point\, the Trump Administration is making unhinged threats of war. Reports are that more U.S. military forces are being sent to Korea\, including an additional aircraft carrier. \nThe statement goes on to say\, “There is a proposal to avert war and start talks\, “freeze for freeze.” in which North Korea suspends its nuclear and missile testing in exchange for halting or scaling back these massive U.S.-South Korean military exercises and for an a peace treaty to formally end the Korean War.” \n“There is a real danger of a new U.S. war\, everyone opposed must speak out. The weekly vigil is one way to speak out against war\,” the statement said. \nThe vigil is sponsored by End War Committee of Women Against Military Madness and the Twin Cities Peace Campaign.  Endorsed by the Anti-War Committee. \nFFI:  https://www.facebook.com/Minnesota-Peace-Action-Coalition-133071846772683/

SUMMARY:Say NO to Trump's #MuslimBan! Twin Cities Resist!
DESCRIPTION:Emergency Response Protest! The U.S. Supreme Court has decided to hear arguments in October 2017 for the #MuslimBan. This means that the ban will go into effect almost immediately – (Thursday of this week) – targeting the immigrants and refugees of 6 Muslim-majority countries: Syria\, Iran\, Libya\, Somalia\, Sudan\, and Yemen. Join us to rise up and #resist this racist attack! \nJoin us to say:\nMuslims are welcome here!\nRefugees & immigrants are welcome here!\nWe say NO to war and racism!\nWar creates refugees! \nJoin the Anti-War Committee in sending a loud message of NO to President Trump and the Supreme Court’s decision to allow parts of the #MuslimBan to take effect before hearing oral arguments in October. This same ban was defeated earlier this year by thousands of people mobilizing in the streets\, at airports & at federal buildings and with federal appeals courts in multiple states putting an end to it. \nWe need to continue showing a message of solidarity with our immigrant neighbors. Join us to speak out against anti-Muslim bigotry and war! The protest will start with a rally at 4:30PM at the Federal Building in DT MPLS to repeat our message of #NoBanNoBombsNoWar! \nOn Monday\, June 26th\, the media reported that the Supreme Court has decided to hear argument for the #MuslimBan. This means that a version of the original draft will go into effect almost immediately and will likely stay in place for at least 90 days. The amended ban says that the U.S. will temporarily ban entries from six majority-Muslim countries (Iran\, Syria\, Sudan\, Libya\, Somalia\, and Yemen) UNLESS they have a “bona fide relationship to a person or entity in the United States.” \nIt is criminal for the U.S. to bomb and attack other countries and then turn away refugees when the U.S. has destroyed their homelands! It is outrageous for Trump\, backed by the approval of the Supreme Court\, to consider doing this while at the same time expand the bombings & killings in these same countries! \nIt is upon us to speak out against his racist foreign policy! All out on Thursday! \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/440811459608483

DESCRIPTION:U.S. bombs targets in Syria:  Say No to U.S. War in Syria – No Escalation of the Endless Wars \nAnti-War Bannering\nSend an emergency anti-war message:\nSaturday\, April 8\, 2017\n3:00 pm – 4:00 pm\nHiawatha and Lake Street\nMinneapolis \nOn Thursday\, April 6\, the Trump Administration launched air strikes against Syria government military facilities. These strikes\, carried out in response to allegations of Syria chemical weapons use\, only make the world a more dan¬gerous place. \nU.S. military intervention is not intended to help people\, or to resolve internal conflicts of small nations in a humanitarian manner. U.S. intervention only serves the interests of the U.S. elite\, who care nothing of Syrian people or the people of the Middle East. \nThe U.S. government has carried out an endless series of wars and intervention for 14 years in Iraq\, Syria\, Yemen\, Libya\, Somalia\, Afghanistan\, Pakistan and elsewhere. This new escalation will only lead to more dead\, injured and displaced. \nJoin the Saturday\, April 8 protest to send an emergency anti-war message! \nSay NO to Endless Wars! \nInitiated by Minnesota Peace Action Coalition and endorsed by the Anti-War Committee\nFor more information 612 275-272 \nFFI:  https://www.facebook.com/events/1308210105894401/

SUMMARY:No Ban No Wars Protest!
DESCRIPTION:No Ban No Wars Protest\nThursday\, March 16th @4:30pm @ US Federal Courts Building\, 300 S 4th St. Minneapolis \nPresident Donald Trump signed a revised Muslim Ban executive order on March 6th. The Minnesota Anti-War Committee will hold a protest at 4:30pm at the US Federal Courts Building (300 S 4th St\, Minneapolis) on Thursday\, March 16th\, the day the executive order will be put into effect. Although changes to the original January 27th ban include the exemption of green card holders and the removal of the indefinite ban on Syrian refugees\, we still see it as a continuation of the racist\, xenophobic\, and Islamophobic policies of the Trump administration. \nThe original executive order was defeated when thousands of people across the country protested at airports and marched through cities–including 15\,000 marching on January 31st in Minneapolis–to protest the ban. These protests prompted a federal judge in Washington state to file an injunction freezing the order\, which was upheld on appeal by the 9th Circuit. \nMake no mistake that this is still very much a Muslim Ban. Immigrants from Sudan\, Syria\, Iran\, Libya\, Somalia and Yemen will be targeted and denied entry into the U.S.\, and refugees won’t be accepted here either. It is criminal for the U.S. to bomb and attack other countries and then turn them away when the U.S. has destroyed their homelands. It is outrageous for Trump to do this while at the same time threatening Iran\, planning to expand the war in Syria\, and increasing the bombing attacks in Yemen!” \nResistance to Trump’s first month in office is unprecedented and will continue. Minnesotans will not be silent while their Somali\, Arab and Muslim neighbors are targeted by the federal government! \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee. \n  \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/1411940538836204/ \n  \n
