SUMMARY:Say NO to NATO
DESCRIPTION:Say NO to NATO\nTues\, July 11th 5 PM in front of Sen Klobuchar’s office\, 1200 Washington Ave\, Mpls (near the intersection of 35W and Washington Ave.)\nNATO is meeting July 11-12 where they have announced they will put 300\,000 forces on higher readiness\, tighten air & missile defense\, and reaffirm Ukraine’s rightful place is in NATO. At every moment NATO has worked to INCREASE tension in Ukraine. NATO is a military alliance aimed at Russia and has always been seen as a force for aggression. This plus the $46.6 billion the US has sent in military assistance is PROLONGING the conflict. We call for negotiations and for peace which can’t happen while NATO is saber rattling.\nInitiated by MN Peace Action Coalition and co-sponsored by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Al Nakba March
DESCRIPTION:Al Nakba March and Protest \nSaturday\, May 20th @ 2pm – gather at Bryant Square Park (3101 Bryant Ave S\, Minneapolis) followed by a march through Uptown  \nFor Palestinians\, May 15 marks Al Nakba\, Arabic for The Catastrophe. During the 1948 war\, at least 750\,000 Palestinians were ruthlessly attacked\, massacred\, and driven from their homes by Zionist terror groups\, and have never been allowed to return\, in violation of international law. 2023 marks 75 years of Israeli land theft\, occupation\, and apartheid.  The U.S. has provided over $50 billion in aid to Israel since 1949\, more than to any other country. Our tax dollars are paying for Israel’s occupation.   \nWe are not talking about Al-Nakba as a historic event but one that is ongoing.  We need to raise our voices and march to denounce the Israeli attacks on the Al Aqsa Mosque where worshipers were violating attacked with rubber-coated bullets\, tear gas\, and stun grenades during Ramadan and to denounce bombing attacks on Gaza.  We must protest the ethnic cleansing of the West Bank and Jerusalem by Israel. \nJoin us for our annual Al-Nakba protest to demand: \n\nEnd U.S. aid to Israel\nThe state of MN must divest its over 800 million in state pension funds from Israeli companies and bonds\nSpeaking out for Palestine is not a crime!\n\nActivists from MN will attend the national protest in DC on May 13th so we will have our local action the next weekend on May 20th.    \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee & American Muslims for Palestine – MN \n

SUMMARY:Mandela Nabka Tour Comes to Minneapolis!
DESCRIPTION:Mandela:  US Nakba Tour \nTuesday\, May 16th @ 7pm @ Council on American Islamic Relations\, 2511 E. Franklin Ave\, Minneapolis\, MN 55406. *Note location change*\n\nPlease also register in advance at mandelatour.com\n\n2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the Nakba (“Catastrophe” in English)\, when over 750\,000 Palestinians were banished from their homes upon the formation of the settler-colonial state of Israel. Today\, there are close to five million Palestinian refugees who continue to demand their Right to Return to the homes and lands from which they were exiled.  \nTo commemorate the Nakba\, the U.S. Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) and the National Alliance Against Racist and Political Repression (NAARPR) have arranged a brief U.S. Nakba Day 75 tour\, to take place from May 15th – May 20th\, featuring Nkosi Zwelivelile Mandela\, elected member of the South African National Assembly representing the African National Congress – and grandson of the late Nelson Mandela – as the tour’s keynote speaker.  \nMr. Mandela\, also the tribal chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council\, holds a degree and a post-graduate diploma in Political Science and International Studies from Rhodes University. Unabashed in his support for the Palestinian people\, just like his grandfather\, he speaks regularly about Palestinian liberation at conferences\, rallies\, and other events across the world. \nMandela\, whose family fought against South African apartheid\, is coming to Minneapolis to speak out against Israeli apartheid and for the rights of Palestinians. The Anti-War Committee and the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice for Jamar are hosting this event to also draw attention to the cooperation between US police forces\, including the Minneapolis Police Force\, and the Israeli Defense Forces. \nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee and Twin Cities Coalition for Justice for Jamar.\nCo-sponsored by Black Lives Matter MN\, Black Lives Matter Twin Cities\, Climate Justice Committee\, Council on American Islamic Relations\, Jewish Voice for Peace -TC\, MN BDS Community\, MN Abortion Action Committee\, MN Immigrant Rights Action Committee\, MN Workers United\, Northfielders for Justice in Palestine\, Students for a Democratic Society @ the U of MN\, Veterans for Peace Chapter 27\, & Women Against Military Madness

SUMMARY:Solidarity Forever: From Minneapolis to Venezuela
DESCRIPTION:Solidarity Forever: From Minneapolis to Venezuela \nWednesday\, March 22nd @ 7pm @ 4200 Cedar Ave S\, Minneapolis\nVenezuela has been under US attack for decades. The country has been subjected to crippling US sanctions that have deprived Venezuelans of food and economic stability. The US has even outrageously kidnapped Venezuelan diplomat Alex Saab in Cape Verde. He is now held in a Miami jail for the “crime” of importing food past the US blockade. On top of all that\, the US has attempted to overthrow the Venezuelan government six times in just the past two decades.\nUS media is complicit in covering up these heinous violations of international law. Two Anti-War Committee members are returning from the Alliance for Global Justice’s Venezuela delegation to do the reporting that the US media refuses to do. Join us on March 22\, 7pm\, at 4200 Cedar Avenue in Minneapolis for a report-back event and Q&A session\, where our members will discuss their firsthand experience seeing the impact of US sanctions on Venezuela’s struggle for liberation.\nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:Show Your Love for Venezuela!
DESCRIPTION:Show Your Love for Venezuela!\n\nFriday\, Feb 10th from 7-10 pm @ 4200 Cedar Ave. S\, Minneapolis\n\nThe Anti-War Committee is sending 2 committee members on a delegation to Venezuela in March to learn about the effects of US sanctions first hand. Trump’s Muslim ban (which included Venezuela) made it difficult for Venezuelans to come here and US sanctions have made the situation very difficult for Venezuelans during a global pandemic. Sending folks from MN is an important act of solidarity and will bring back needed information! Help us send them to Venezuela on the upcoming Alliance for Global Justice delegation.\nThere will also be drinks\, a silent auction so you can bid on a Valentines Day gift basket\, karaoke\, and a way to send messages along with the delegation!\n\nDonations can be tax deductible and can be made out to the Anti-War Education Fund with Venezuela in the memo or made online: .https://www.givemn.org/story/X5rgfg

SUMMARY:Massacre in Jenin:  Emergency Palestine Solidarity Action
DESCRIPTION:Massacre in Jenin:  Emergency Palestine Solidarity Action \nWednesday\, February 1\, 2023 at 5:30 pm at 4200 Cedar Ave. S\, Minneapolis \nLast week Israeli commandos killed 9 Palestinians and wounded 20 in the Jenin refugee camp.  Israeli forces have killed 32 Palestinians in January 2023 so far.  More than one Palestinian has been killed a day on average in the first month of 2023\, on track to double the tragic rate of lethal violence in the occupied West Bank last year — which was already the highest on record since the United Nations began collecting this data\, and double that of 2021. \nJoin the Anti-War Committee for an emergency response bannering before our weekly meeting from 5:30-6:30 pm at the intersection of 42nd and Cedar in Minneapolis.  The AWC office will be open in case folks need a place to warm up.  Our meeting will start at 7pm.   \nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee.   \n#FreePalestine #JeninMassacre

SUMMARY:January: Cuba Car Caravan against the US Blockade of Cuba/Caravana contra el Bloqueo
DESCRIPTION:-End the U.S. Blockade of Cuba\n-Take Cuba off the U.S. State Sponsors of Terrorism\n\nJoin SCOTA\, the Minnesota Cuba Committee and others for our monthly car caravan against the US blockade of Cuba. Meet us at South High School in Minneapolis or WATCH LIVE on this page.\nThis month we’re focusing on the continuation of Cuba on the list of nations that the U.S. designates as “terrorist.”\nMore than 10\,000 people and 100 progressive advocacy groups have signed an open letter urging President Joe Biden to reverse the Trump administration’s terrorism designation for Cuba and to reinstate Obama-era policy for the island.\nThe international outcry against the U.S. intentional starvation blockade of Cuba is growing. These actions powerfully refute the U.S. claim that Marco Rubio\, Bob Menendez and Ted Cruz anti-Cuba campaign represents us.\n\nNow in their third year\, the public bike and car caravans that started in Miami and led by Cuban-Americans have broken up that myth. Watch this video\, produced by Cuban-Americans in Miami for the September 25 caravans (in Spanish with English subtitles).\nhttps://youtu.be/WNkUgppYJBE\n———————————\nCar caravan details:\nSouth High School parking lot\, 3131 19th Ave So\, Minneapolis\n12:30: Volunteer car marshal training\n1:00: Line up and add signs and flags to cars at South High School parking lot\, 3131 19th Ave So\, Minneapolis. Signs and car flags will be available or bring your own. Caravan sponsors will make brief remarks.\n1:30: Caravan begins – left out of the parking lot on 21st Street\, left on Lake Street\, right on First Ave. South\, left through the Post Office parking lot\, left on Blaisdell and left on Lake back to South High.\n2:30: Brief closing rally at South High parking lot.\nThe lead car will be in contact with participating cars – details will be provided at the rally site.

SUMMARY:International Human Rights Day
DESCRIPTION:International Human Rights Day \n\n Saturday\, December 10th\n1pm – meet at Bryant Square Park\, 3101 Bryant Ave S\, Minneapolis\nUptown march to follow\nThe US uses the language of human rights to justify US intervention in Ukraine and to impose sanctions on Iran\, Venezuela\, and Cuba.\nMeanwhile the U.S. government continuously refuses to act in support of the basic human rights to education\, healthcare\, housing\, and a live-able planet for our children here at home. After the Supreme Court’s decision overturning Roe v. Wade\, people in the US are also fighting for women’s and reproductive rights. Lastly\, people of color are targeted by police and killed at an outrageous rate in their own communities.\nThis comes on top of longstanding US wars and interventions\, which NEVER bring human rights. Instead\, they brutally subject the people’s of the world to occupation and instability\, while stealing their natural resources and suppressing their rights to self-determination. We see it in Palestine\, where the U.S. encourages illegal annexations for Israeli settlers\, and funds an ongoing war on Palestinians.\nJoin with us to demand respect for human rights at home and abroad!\nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee.\n#InternationalHumanRightsDay
