SUMMARY:Emergency protest: HANDS OFF IRAN!
DESCRIPTION:🚨 EMERGENCY PROTEST: the military attack on Iran is escalating! \n⚠️ URGENT: Israel has issued a 24-hour evacuation warning to the residents of District 3 of Tehran. President Trump has now committed to partnering with Israel in its escalation against Iran and has given the Iranian leaders 24-48 hours to  “surrender” unconditionally. A full-scale US and Israeli bombardment is on the horizon. \nWe are witnessing a repetition of the same pretexts the US imperial machine used to justify the war in Iraq. 224 Iranians have already been killed. \n📣 WE HAVE TO SAY NO TO US BOMBING OF IRAN! \n📍 Federal Building (300 S 4th Street\, Minneapolis\, MN) \n📅 Thursday\, June 19th \n⏰ 5:30 PM \norganized by the Free Palestine Coalition

SUMMARY:Oppose Trump’s agenda! Divest Minnesota from Israel!
DESCRIPTION:Oppose Trump’s agenda! Divest Minnesota from Israel! \n‼️ Rally outside the DFL’s annual Humphrey-Mondale Dinner fundraiser\n📍 The Minneapolis Hilton\, 1001 Marquette Ave.\n🗓️ Friday\, June 13\n⏰ 5 PM \nIsrael’s genocide is becoming undeniable. On top of daily bombings of schools and hospitals\, Israeli forces have now repeatedly killed dozens of Palestinians trying to access food at Israel’s much-criticized distribution sites. Even major U.S. allies are beginning to cut support for Israel’s ethnic cleansing system in Palestine. \nJoin us to demand our state leaders join them by divesting Minnesota funds\, managed by the State Board of Investment\, from Israel. Governor Tim Walz\, Attorney General Keith Ellison\, State Auditor Julie Blaha and Secretary of State Steve Simon make up the SBI’s board members and are prominent DFLers. They have the power to take action against both the ongoing genocide\, and against Trump’s extremist\, full throttle attacks on all fronts\, domestically and abroad. \nState divestment from Israel would not only weaken support for its massacres in Palestine — it would send an important message that Minnesota is ready to fight Trump’s agenda across the board. \nIt’s time for the SBI and DFL members to do what’s right:  Oppose Trump’s agenda! Divest Minnesota from Israel! \nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:Emergency Press Conference
DESCRIPTION:Anti-War Committee office attacked in Minneapolis; press conference planned \nWhere: 4200 Cedar Ave\, Minneapolis \nWhen: Monday\, May 26 at 1 p.m. \nMINNEAPOLIS – Multiple windows were found smashed at the South Minneapolis office of the Minnesota Anti-War Committee (AWC) on Saturday morning. No items appear to be missing. Photos are attached. \nThe AWC believes this to be a targeted\, politically motivated attack. The committee has organized since 1998 against U.S. imperialism and militarism\, including playing a lead role in major pro-Palestine protests in the Twin Cities since Israel’s genocide in Gaza escalated in October 2023. \nOrganizers will hold a press conference at the damaged office with local leaders including Minneapolis Council Member Aisha Chughtai\, on Monday at 1 p.m. In addition to journalists\, community members are invited to attend to stand in solidarity against all attempts to silence progressive organizing in the current period. \n“With political violence and repression on the rise under the Trump administration\, it does not surprise us to be targeted\,” said AWC member Gabriel Miller. “Standing in solidarity with Palestine\, immigrants\, workers and the Black Lives Matter movement\, we understand that an attack on us is an attack on all. We are not deterred by this political violence. We will continue to raise our voices louder than ever in support of oppressed peoples at home and abroad.” \n  \nThe 4200 Cedar complex has served as a meeting space for grassroots movement organizations since 2012. The AWC shares its office with another group\, the Climate Justice Committee.

SUMMARY:Al Nakba March:  Stop Trump's Genocide of Gaza!
DESCRIPTION:Al Nakba March:  Stop Trump’s Genocide of Gaza!\nSaturday\, May 17th 1:30pm @ Gateway Park Fountain\, 1 S 1st St\, Minneapolis \n\nDefend the right to protest!\nEnd the ethnic cleansing of Gaza!\nFree Mahmoud Khalil!\n\nThe Nakba (meaning ‘catastrophe’) refers to the period in time starting in 1947 when the illegal settler nation of Israel forcefully expelled between 750\,000- 1 million Palestinians from their home (approx. 75% of the population at the time). During the following months\, the Israeli military and settlers alike rampaged through Palestine\, destroying over 400 towns and cities. They destroyed houses\, apartments\, hospitals\, places of worship\, historical sites\, and more. \nThe Nakba may have started in 1947\, but it is still ongoing today. Palestinians have faced settler and state violence for over 78 years\, and now Trump wants to further the Nakba. Trump’s plans for Gaza and for Palestine must be stopped. Join us to stand against Trump\, and to stand with Palestinians and all oppressed people in solidarity. \nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee and American Muslims for Palestine- MN \nThis action is also a part of the Anti War Action Network’s call for actions for Al Nakba

SUMMARY:Pack the Room at the State Board of Investment Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Pack the Room at the State Board of Investment Meeting \nFriday\, March 21st @ 9:00 am @ Retirement Systems Building\, Room 106\, 60 Empire Drive\, St. Paul\, MN 55103 \nJoin us to demand that the SBI divest MN tax dollars and public pension funds currently invested in Israel and corporations profiting from the occupation of Palestine! \nOn February 27\, the Minnesota State Board of Investment (SBI) abruptly postponed its quarterly meeting\, which had been scheduled for March 5. The postponement was posted to the SBI’s website with no explanation and no new date provided.\n\nThe Anti-War Committee condemns the SBI’s attempts at political repression\, which\, beyond last-minute rescheduling of meetings\, have also included last-minute changes in meeting format that disallowed community members from addressing the board or giving spoken testimony.\n\nThe SBI has rescheduled for Friday\, March 21\, at 9:00 a.m.\, and claims public testimony will be allowed. The Anti-War Committee strongly encourages all who can make it to show up\, pack the room\, and join us for a rally and press conference afterward\, to send a strong message to the SBI: we will not stand idly by while our tax dollars\, and the hard-won pensions of our unions\, are allowed to be invested in genocide and apartheid.\nInitiated by the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:Emergency Protest to Respond to the Detention of Mahmoud Khalil
DESCRIPTION:Emergency protest to respond to the detention of Mahmoud Khalil and attacks on non-citizen Palestine activists at U.S. universities \nTuesday\, March 11 at 5 pm\nMinneapolis Federal Building\, 300 S 4th Street\, Minneapolis \nOn the evening of March 8\, 2025\, the Department of Homeland Security detained Palestinian Columbia University student activist Mahmoud Khalil. This was the first detention after Trump ordered the State Department to deport students affiliated with pro-Palestine activism. Khalil is a lawful permanent resident of the U.S. (Green card holder) and his arrest is an unlawful violation of freedom of speech and immigration laws. Trump’s Executive Order 13899 requires “the Secretary of State\, the Secretary of Education\, and the Secretary of Homeland Security\, in consultation with each other […] report activities by alien students and staff relevant to those grounds and for ensuring that such reports about aliens lead\, as appropriate and consistent with applicable law\, to investigations and\, if warranted\, actions to remove such aliens.” \nOn February 28\, The Department of Justice announced that a Federal Task Force to “Combat Antisemitism” would visit ten college campuses that “experienced incidents of antisemitism.” Trump’s administration conflates antisemitism with anti-zionism and criminalizes students\, staff\, and faculty who have protested a deadly genocide that in 16 months killed over 62\,000 people in Gaza. This is a Title VI violation and discrimination against Muslim\, Palestinian\, and Middle Eastern students\, faculty\, and staff. Columbia University and University of Minnesota are among campuses under investigation. \nMeredith Aby\, an organizer with the MN Anti-War Committee explains\, “Columbia University has repeatedly targeted Khalil for his Palestinian identity and activism. He was a lead negotiator during the Gaza Solidarity Encampment last spring and has been outspoken against the genocide. Similarly\, UMN has criminalized student protesters with arrests and suspensions and fired and unhired faculty and staff for opposing the genocide in Gaza. We are concerned that UMN will follow suit and submit information to allow the detention of MN students\, faculty\, and staff for participating in protests. The racist targeting of Khalil aims to instill fear in pro-Palestine activists as well as a warning to others at all university campuses. We are organizing this protest to show community support for the pro-Palestine student movement.” \nAby continued\, “ We are joining with the national call for March 11th to say NO to the McCarthyesque witch-hunt at our universities and to condemn the weaponization of antisemitism to justify anti-Muslim and anti-Palestinian racism. Free Mahmoud Khalil Now!” \nThe protest is organized by the MN Anti-War Committee\, UMN Educators for Justice in Palestine\, UMN Students for a Democratic Society\, UMN Students for Justice in Palestine\, Minnesota Immigration Rights Action Committee\, and Jewish Voice for Peace.

SUMMARY:The Message Book Club
DESCRIPTION:Join us to discuss Ta-Nehisi Coates’ The Message over coffee and donuts \n🗓️🕚 Sunday\, February 23rd @ 11 AM\n📍 Lucy Parsons Center (4100 S 28th Ave\, Minneapolis) \nThe book is available in audiobook format. Physical copies are available for purchase from @maydaybooksmpls (cash only!) \nQuotes from the author from NPR’s “Ta-Nehisi Coates explores how oppression can breed oppression in ‘The Message’”: \nOn the need for more Palestinian voices to be heard:\nWe need more Palestinians to be enshrined to tell their story and to tell their perspective. … The people who are enduring\, from my perspective\, this system of apartheid have not been enshrined to speak about what future they would envision. \nIt would be as if we were trying to figure out segregation … and we completely sidelined Black people and deprived them of the ability to articulate what they felt the world should look like. \nImagine a world where there can’t be an “I Have a Dream” speech because nobody will cover it and nobody will give the opportunity for that message to get out in the first place. \n— \nOn differences he observed between the ways that Palestinians and Israelis are treated in the Israeli-occupied West Bank:\nI was being made aware of the fact that if a Palestinian is arrested on the West Bank\, they are subject to the military system of justice\, whereas if a Jewish settler is arrested on the West Bank\, they’re subjected to the civil system. … I was made aware of the differing water laws that govern [access] depending on who you are\, an entire separate system of justice that was … separate and unequal. \nAs a descendant of someone who was\, or peoples who are\, born into a system of governance that was separate and unequal\, it was very hard for me to not be struck by that emotionally.
