SUMMARY:Bannering: Stop Military Co2 Emissions Now!
DESCRIPTION:Bannering:  Stop Military Co2 Emissions Now!\n\nThursday\, June 3rd @ 5 PM @ 34th Ave & Highway 62 in Minneapolis\nJoin us in our bannering at 34th Avenue over Highway 62.  We are bringing attention to how the military is one of the world’s largest polluters. “The Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University estimates that the U.S. military has emitted roughly 1.2 billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions since the global war on terror began in 2001 (Darby\, 2019). This level of greenhouse gas emissions is equivalent to operating 257 million passenger cars annually. The carbon emissions from war-related activity in Iraq\, Afghanistan\, Pakistan\, and Syria is projected to have reached 400 million metric tons of carbon dioxide through 2019 (Darby\, 2019).”  Organized by the Climate Justice Committee and endorsed by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Protest Northrup Grumman: End Weapons Sales to Israel!
DESCRIPTION:Protest Northrup Grumman: End Weapons Sales to Israel!\nThursday\, May 27th @ 3pm @ Northrup Grumman\, 4700 Nathan Ln N\, Plymouth\, MN\nJoin us to protest Northrup Grumman’s role as a weapons manufacture here in MN which makes weapons which are being used by Israel in its military attacks on Gaza. In 2017\, it was the fifth largest arms–producing and military services company in the world and the third largest government contractor in the United States. Northrop Grumman made $25.8 billion in total sales in 2017\, of which 85 percent came from U.S. Government sales and 13 percent came from international customers and Foreign Military Sales. Northrop Grumman provides the Israeli military with the Longbow system for Apache AH64D helicopters. The Longbow system\, a joint venture with Lockheed Martin\, consists of the Longbow Hellfire missile (AGM-114L) and a fire-control radar (AN/APG-78). The company also produces key parts for the F-35\, a fighter jet manufactured by Lockheed Martin that Israel acquired through the United States government’s Foreign Military Sales program. Northrop Grumman produces approximately 35% of the Lockheed Martin F-35 aircraft\, including its center fuselage\, radar\, avionics\, electro-optics\, navigation\, communications and identification subsystems\, and mission systems and mission-planning software. The company also manages pilot and maintainer training systems software as well as the team’s use\, support\, and maintenance of low-observable technologies. Northrop Grumman also makes the AN/APG-68(V)9 Multimode Fire Control Radar for the F-16.Northrop Grumman Italia provided the Israeli Air Force with its LISA-200 Attitude Heading Reference System (AHRS) for a fleet of M-346 advanced trainer aircrafts. The company manufactured and provided Israel with its Sa’ar 5 Eilat Class corvettes\, which are missile ships used to enforce the siege of Gaza.\nFor more information about the role Northrup Grumman has in making weapons for Israel go here: https://investigate.afsc.org/company/northrop-grumman.\nProtest is organized by American Muslims for Palestine\, Anti-War Committee\, Jewish Voice for Peace\, and If Not Now.

SUMMARY:Land Day Protest
DESCRIPTION:COMMEMORATE THE GREAT MARCH OF RETURN\nFREE PALESTINE BANNERING\nTUESDAY\, MARCH 30 @ 5 PM\nFOOTBRIDGE OVER I-94 BETWEEN WALKER SCULPTURE GARDEN & LORING PARK\, MPLS\nJoin us for a visibility bannering\n#GreatReturnMarch #LandDay #FreePalestine\nOn March 30\, 1976\, Land Day marked a turning point as the first mass mobilization by Palestinians within Israel against colonialism and land theft. Israeli police shot and killed six Palestinian citizens of Israel for protesting the Israeli government’s expropriation of Palestinian land. Land Day’s significance in the Palestinian political calendar was compounded in 2018\, when hundreds were killed and thousands injured by Israeli sniper fire as Palestinians demanded their Right of Return to their stolen land with mass protests in Gaza\, called the Great March of Return.\nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee & American Muslims for Palestine

The U.S. continues the endless series of wars and military interventions around the world.  The Biden Administration now wants to stay in Afghanistan\, even after the U.S. made an agreement to leave by May 1.  U.S. troops remain\, and bombings and drone strikes continue\, in Iraq\, Syria\, and elsewhere.  The effects of U.S. militarism  around the world are felt at home with militarization of police and  brutalization of communities at home. The wars abroad are felt on the streets at home\, as funds for housing\, jobs\, health care and other human needs go to the Pentagon war machine. Initiated by Minnesota Peace Action Coalition.  Endorsed by:  Anti-War Committee\, Climate Justice Committee\, Women Against Military Madness\, Veterans for Peace.

SUMMARY:Bannering: Now War with Iran! End the Sanctions Now!
DESCRIPTION:Bannering: Now War with Iran! End the Sanctions Now!\nThursday\, February 18th @ 5pm @ the Snelling Ave. bridge in St. Paul\nThis bannering is happening as a part of the United National Anti-war Coalition’s call for action for Feb 18-21.In its first weeks in power\, the Biden administration is already hurtling towards a potential war scenario with Iran. Trump’s many illegal provocations–unilaterally quitting the JCPOA nuclear deal with Iran\, imposing devastating “maximum pressure” sanctions on Iran’s economy during a pandemic and a campaign of brazen assassinations–have left the two countries on a collision course. Despite Biden’s campaign promises to change course and rejoin the JCPOA\, recent statements from administration officials indicate plans to continue Trump’s deadly game of chicken. All while US military forces continue to build up in the Persian Gulf. The United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC)’s youth committee\, Youth Against Empire\, are calling for all anti-war\, international solidarity and peace groups to join us for Days of Action to demand: No War With Iran! End The Sanctions NOW! They encourage participating groups to organize bannerings\, rallies\, forums\, etc. between February 18-21. Time is running out to avert yet another war for oil and hegemony in the Middle East.  Organized by the Anti-War Committee.

DESCRIPTION:Press Conference For Inauguration Day Rally To Demand A People’s Agenda \nTuesday\, January 19th @ noon @ U.S. Federal Courthouse\, 300 S. 4th St\, Minneapolis \nMINNEAPOLIS — Spokespeople from progressive groups planning a protest march on the day of Joe Biden’s inauguration will hold a press conference about the event the day before the demonstration\, on Tuesday January 19. The press conference will take place at noon on the plaza in front of the Diana E. Murphy U.S. Courthouse building in downtown Minneapolis. \nA broad coalition of progressive organizations has planned a rally and march in Minneapolis on the day of the inauguration of the Biden/Harris presidency\, January 20. Demonstrators will call for a People’s Agenda that immediately reverses the policies of outgoing President Trump and meets the demands of working people\, immigrants and BIPOC communities where previous administrations of both parties have failed. Protesters will gather near South High School in Minneapolis at 5 p.m. \nThe list of demands compiled by the coalition highlighted not only the failures and racist attacks from the Trump administration\, but also what they see as omissions and shortcomings of Biden’s platform during the campaign. The action comes after a year which saw both a deadly pandemic as well as a mass rebellion against police violence. Organizers said the inauguration marked an opportunity to renew calls for real change that thus far have failed to materialize. \nThe action was initiated by the Anti-War Committee and the Climate Justice Committee\, and endorsed by AFSCME 34\, AFSCME 2822\, AFSCME 3800\, Black Lives Matter Twin Cities Metro\, Brown Berets MN\, Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR-MN)\, Families Supporting Families Against Police Violence\, Good Trouble for Justice\, Justice4MarcusGolden\, May Day Books\, Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee\, MN Peace Action Coalition\, MN Workers United\, MN Youth for Justice\, Native Lives Matter\, Nukewatch\, Racial Justice Network\, Students Against Pipelines\, Students for a Democratic Society at UMN\, Student Movement Activists of South High (SMASH)\, Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar\, Twin Cities Peace Campaign\, UMN Climate Strike\, Veterans for Peace Chapter 27\, Welfare Rights Committee\, Women Against Military Madness\, and others. \n  \nFull list of demands: \n\n\nNo war with Iran \n\n\nEnd sanctions against Iran and Venezuela \n\n\nEnd aid to Israel \n\n\nCommunity control of the police \n\n\nNo more killer cops \n\n\nStop the deportations \n\n\nEnd separating families at the border – no more concentration camps \n\n\nEnd the Muslim Ban \n\n\nDefend DACA and TPS \n\n\nLegalization for all \n\n\nImmediate release and reunification of separated families at the border \n\n\nReparations to all peoples affected by inhumane immigration practices \n\n\nCriminal prosecution of Donald Trump and all responsible for illegal practices at the border (forced hysterectomies\, family separations) \n\n\nTerminate the border wall project \n\n\nDefend the right to protest! SUMMARY:Call in: Drop The Charges Against the 11/4 646
DESCRIPTION:Call in: Drop The Charges Against the 11/4 646\nWednesday\, November 18th & 19th from 7 AM –  7 PM\n\n\n\nGovernor Tim Walz: 651-201-3400\nMayor Jacob Frey: 612-673-2100\n\n\n646 people were arrested for public nuisance on November 4th for protesting Trump and for Black Lives in Minneapolis. We were kettled by the MN National Guard\, State Troopers\, and MPD in an effort to try to scare the movement from future protests. The governor and the mayor are worried that there will be another George Floyd uprising because there has been no change in the system (yet) which killed Floyd and that we will respond with more mass protests. Please call to defend our right to protest and to demand that our charges are dropped. Thanks!\n \nBackground info on the arrests: https://minnesotareformer.com/2020/11/05/state-leaders-face-backlash-over-arresting-hundreds-of-protesters-in-minneapolis/\n\nSample script:\n“My name is [name] and I’m a resident of [city]. I’m calling to demand that all charges be dropped against the 646 protesters who were arrested on November 4 on I-94 in Minneapolis. This was a protest against the police murders of George Floyd and so many others\, demanding all votes be counted in the previous day’s presidential election and real police accountability from the winner. What would have been a short\, safe march on one direction of highway became a dangerous six-hour ordeal as police surrounded protesters without giving any dispersal warning\, physically blocked protesters from exiting the highway\, closed both lanes of traffic\, assaulted bystanders\, and largely refused to wear masks to help prevent Covid-19 transmission. Many protesters face ‘public nuisance’ charges\, but the real public nuisance was the police decision to escalate the situation with unlawful mass arrests. It will also be a public nuisance to bring these flimsy\, politically motivated charges before the court system which is already backlogged due to the pandemic. These charges are an attempt to intimidate the Black Lives Matter movement out of its First Amendment rights rather than address the ongoing crisis of unaccountable police murders. Drop ALL charges against the I-94 646 immediately.”\nPlease spread the word!  Initiated by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Foreign Policy 2020: Trump v. Biden
DESCRIPTION:Foreign Policy 2020: Trump v. Biden\nTuesday\, October 20th @ 7pm – Online Event\nAlthough there are plenty of differences between Biden and Trump in terms of how they’d govern America\, it’s way harder to tell the difference between their foreign policies. It matters little to Afghanis\, for instance\, whether it’s Biden or Trump sending the troops and air raids to their long-occupied country. Imperialism remains a bipartisan commitment to a large degree\, but what are the differences? What can we expect from the next four years? \nAfter all\, we’ve got to be ready to protest for an end to U.S. imperialism\, no matter who is President! \nCome hear from Minnesota’s anti-war and climate justice movements about Biden and Trump’s foreign policy positions. There’s a ton to cover\, so we’ll focus on the cases of Palestine\, Venezuela\, China\, and climate change. After the presentation there will be an online discussion and time for Q&A. We’ll stream the panel on the AntiWarMN Facebook page – tell your friends! \nMoney for education! Not wars and occupation! \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee \n**Note the AWC does not endorse candidates

SUMMARY:Palestine Bannering - Remember the Sabra & Shatila Massacre
DESCRIPTION:Palestine Bannering – Remember the Sabra & Shatila Massacre\nThursday\, September 17th @ 5pm on the Loring Park footbridge (on the side of the park near the Walker Art Center) \nOn September 16-18\, 1982\, pro-Israel militiamen murdered hundreds of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians living in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camp in Beirut\, Lebanon. The massacre was carried out at the orders of the invading Israeli army\, which had surrounded and besieged the neighborhoods before the attacks. This year on September 17\, to remember and denounce the massacre we will be bannering over I-94\, at the Loring Park footbridge at 5pm. \nThe anniversary comes on the heels of the horrific Beirut explosion of August 4\, which killed at least 180 people and crippled Lebanese infrastructure. What’s less known is that Lebanon already had been struggling under new US sanctions\, quietly imposed in June. US sanctions are contributing to Covid deaths\, inflation\, shortages and mass unemployment in the Beirut explosion aftermath. Last week\, the Trump administration discussed plans for even more sanctions on Lebanon. \nThe Sabra and Shatila Massacre reminds us that solidarity with Palestine means solidarity with Lebanon. Half a million Palestinian refugees still live in Lebanon\, where conditions remain poor. Lebanon and Palestine share an interconnected history of struggle against US-Israeli occupation. The massacre took place during Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon\, which led to Israeli occupation of Lebanon’s south until 2000. In 2006\, another Israeli invasion was repelled\, but Israel inflicted enormous harm across Lebanon with Gaza-style aerial bombings. The US has its own direct history of violence in Lebanon\, including a US military expedition in 1958\, bombing campaigns in the 1980s\, and the current sanctions regime. \nOn September 17\, join us to remember the Sabra and Shatila Massacre by demanding: \n–Right of return for Palestinian refugees to their national homeland\, Palestine\n–Immediate lifting of US sanctions on Lebanon\n–End US aid to Israel\nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee
