SUMMARY:Bannering: Now War with Iran! End the Sanctions Now!
DESCRIPTION:Bannering: Now War with Iran! End the Sanctions Now!\nThursday\, February 18th @ 5pm @ the Snelling Ave. bridge in St. Paul\nThis bannering is happening as a part of the United National Anti-war Coalition’s call for action for Feb 18-21.In its first weeks in power\, the Biden administration is already hurtling towards a potential war scenario with Iran. Trump’s many illegal provocations–unilaterally quitting the JCPOA nuclear deal with Iran\, imposing devastating “maximum pressure” sanctions on Iran’s economy during a pandemic and a campaign of brazen assassinations–have left the two countries on a collision course. Despite Biden’s campaign promises to change course and rejoin the JCPOA\, recent statements from administration officials indicate plans to continue Trump’s deadly game of chicken. All while US military forces continue to build up in the Persian Gulf. The United National Antiwar Coalition (UNAC)’s youth committee\, Youth Against Empire\, are calling for all anti-war\, international solidarity and peace groups to join us for Days of Action to demand: No War With Iran! End The Sanctions NOW! They encourage participating groups to organize bannerings\, rallies\, forums\, etc. between February 18-21. Time is running out to avert yet another war for oil and hegemony in the Middle East.  Organized by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Call in: Drop The Charges Against the 11/4 646
DESCRIPTION:Call in: Drop The Charges Against the 11/4 646\nWednesday\, November 18th & 19th from 7 AM –  7 PM\n\n\n\nGovernor Tim Walz: 651-201-3400\nMayor Jacob Frey: 612-673-2100\n\n\n646 people were arrested for public nuisance on November 4th for protesting Trump and for Black Lives in Minneapolis. We were kettled by the MN National Guard\, State Troopers\, and MPD in an effort to try to scare the movement from future protests. The governor and the mayor are worried that there will be another George Floyd uprising because there has been no change in the system (yet) which killed Floyd and that we will respond with more mass protests. Please call to defend our right to protest and to demand that our charges are dropped. Thanks!\n \nBackground info on the arrests: https://minnesotareformer.com/2020/11/05/state-leaders-face-backlash-over-arresting-hundreds-of-protesters-in-minneapolis/\n\nSample script:\n“My name is [name] and I’m a resident of [city]. I’m calling to demand that all charges be dropped against the 646 protesters who were arrested on November 4 on I-94 in Minneapolis. This was a protest against the police murders of George Floyd and so many others\, demanding all votes be counted in the previous day’s presidential election and real police accountability from the winner. What would have been a short\, safe march on one direction of highway became a dangerous six-hour ordeal as police surrounded protesters without giving any dispersal warning\, physically blocked protesters from exiting the highway\, closed both lanes of traffic\, assaulted bystanders\, and largely refused to wear masks to help prevent Covid-19 transmission. Many protesters face ‘public nuisance’ charges\, but the real public nuisance was the police decision to escalate the situation with unlawful mass arrests. It will also be a public nuisance to bring these flimsy\, politically motivated charges before the court system which is already backlogged due to the pandemic. These charges are an attempt to intimidate the Black Lives Matter movement out of its First Amendment rights rather than address the ongoing crisis of unaccountable police murders. Drop ALL charges against the I-94 646 immediately.”\nPlease spread the word!  Initiated by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Foreign Policy 2020: Trump v. Biden
DESCRIPTION:Foreign Policy 2020: Trump v. Biden\nTuesday\, October 20th @ 7pm – Online Event\nAlthough there are plenty of differences between Biden and Trump in terms of how they’d govern America\, it’s way harder to tell the difference between their foreign policies. It matters little to Afghanis\, for instance\, whether it’s Biden or Trump sending the troops and air raids to their long-occupied country. Imperialism remains a bipartisan commitment to a large degree\, but what are the differences? What can we expect from the next four years? \nAfter all\, we’ve got to be ready to protest for an end to U.S. imperialism\, no matter who is President! \nCome hear from Minnesota’s anti-war and climate justice movements about Biden and Trump’s foreign policy positions. There’s a ton to cover\, so we’ll focus on the cases of Palestine\, Venezuela\, China\, and climate change. After the presentation there will be an online discussion and time for Q&A. We’ll stream the panel on the AntiWarMN Facebook page – tell your friends! \nMoney for education! Not wars and occupation! \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee \n**Note the AWC does not endorse candidates

SUMMARY:Palestine Bannering - Remember the Sabra & Shatila Massacre
DESCRIPTION:Palestine Bannering – Remember the Sabra & Shatila Massacre\nThursday\, September 17th @ 5pm on the Loring Park footbridge (on the side of the park near the Walker Art Center) \nOn September 16-18\, 1982\, pro-Israel militiamen murdered hundreds of Palestinian and Lebanese civilians living in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camp in Beirut\, Lebanon. The massacre was carried out at the orders of the invading Israeli army\, which had surrounded and besieged the neighborhoods before the attacks. This year on September 17\, to remember and denounce the massacre we will be bannering over I-94\, at the Loring Park footbridge at 5pm. \nThe anniversary comes on the heels of the horrific Beirut explosion of August 4\, which killed at least 180 people and crippled Lebanese infrastructure. What’s less known is that Lebanon already had been struggling under new US sanctions\, quietly imposed in June. US sanctions are contributing to Covid deaths\, inflation\, shortages and mass unemployment in the Beirut explosion aftermath. Last week\, the Trump administration discussed plans for even more sanctions on Lebanon. \nThe Sabra and Shatila Massacre reminds us that solidarity with Palestine means solidarity with Lebanon. Half a million Palestinian refugees still live in Lebanon\, where conditions remain poor. Lebanon and Palestine share an interconnected history of struggle against US-Israeli occupation. The massacre took place during Israel’s 1982 invasion of Lebanon\, which led to Israeli occupation of Lebanon’s south until 2000. In 2006\, another Israeli invasion was repelled\, but Israel inflicted enormous harm across Lebanon with Gaza-style aerial bombings. The US has its own direct history of violence in Lebanon\, including a US military expedition in 1958\, bombing campaigns in the 1980s\, and the current sanctions regime. \nOn September 17\, join us to remember the Sabra and Shatila Massacre by demanding: \n–Right of return for Palestinian refugees to their national homeland\, Palestine\n–Immediate lifting of US sanctions on Lebanon\n–End US aid to Israel\nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:From Minneapolis to Palestine: Resistance to Apartheid\, Occupation & Police Brutality
DESCRIPTION:From Minneapolis to Palestine: Resistance to Apartheid\, Occupation & Police Brutality\nThis event will be broadcast on Facebook Live on Thursday\, July 23\, 2020 at 7 PM – 8:30 PM Central Standard Time. \nAcross the world\, repression is worsening but the movement is growing. In the West Bank\, Israel prepares to declare its illegal settlements “annexed” and further diminish the sovereignty of the Palestinian nation. In Minneapolis\, people are rising up against police murders and anti-Black racism. \nRepression in Palestine and US cities like Minneapolis is connected by the tactics and technology Israel develops and exports to American law enforcement. But the resistance crosses borders too. Palestinians in the diaspora stand with Black victims of police violence. A global movement to free Palestine grows and gains legitimacy. \nThe Minnesota Anti-War Committee presents an online panel on the multinational resistance from Minneapolis to Palestine. \nPanelists:\nDanya Zituni is a member of US Palestinian Community Network (USPCN) and is currently based in Detroit. Previously she was a staff member in Chicago for the Arab American Action Network (AAAN) and active with USPCN in Chicago. \nTessneem Abdallah is a board member with American Muslims for Palestine MN. \nMeredith Aby-Keirstead is a founding member of the Minnesota Anti-War Committee. She travelled to Palestine in 2002 and in 2009 was one of the Anti-War 23 who were raided by the FBI in part over alleged connections to blacklisted Palestinian organizations. \nAngel Buchner is a member of TC Coalition Justice for Jamar which has been organizing as a part of the Black Lives Matter movement for 5 years. Before being in TCCJ4J Angel was an organizer with the MN Welfare Rights Committee and has been a long time supporter of the Anti-War Committee. \nThis event is organized by the Anti-War Committee with support from AMP MN\, CAIR MN\, TCCJ4J\, Justice for Isak\, USPCN\, Veterans for Peace Chapter 27 and WAMM.

SUMMARY:Days of Rage! SAY NO to Israeli theft of Palestinian Lands
DESCRIPTION:Days of Rage!  SAY NO to Israeli theft of Palestinian Lands\nFriday\, July 3rd @ 4:30-5:30 pm\nCorner of Summit and Snelling St. Paul weekly WAMM vigil\n\nJoin us for the international call for days of action to Say No to Israel’s continued theft of Palestinian land.  This annexation plan codifies the expropriation of Palestinian land and may secure Israeli sovereignty over 30% of the West Bank\, including the border with Jordan called the Jordan Valley. Over 500\,000 of these illegal settlers already live in the West Bank and Jerusalem\, and annexation is the Zionist’s way of saying that the land stolen from Palestinians to build settlements and house colonizers now officially belongs to Israel.   This plan and move by Israel would not be possible without the U.S. Both the Democrats and Republicans have allowed Israel to commit crimes against the Palestinians with impunity\, but Trump’s administration has definitely been the worst in history.\nCo-Sponsored by WAMM and the Anti-War Committee\n #Defend Palestinian Lands. #End US Aid to Israel #NotoAnnexation #FreePalestine

Fathers Day Protest\n\nSunday\, June 21st from 2 – 4 PM @ Minnesota State Capitol\, 75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd\, Saint Paul\n\nThe epidemic of killer cops must end now before one more family loses a loved one. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) continues separating families at an outrageous rate and this must stop now. SUMMARY:Al Nakba Car Rally & Parade: Say NO to US Aid to Israel! End Israeli Apartheid!
DESCRIPTION:Al Nakba Car Rally & Parade:  Say NO to US Aid to Israel! End Israeli Apartheid! \nFriday\, May 15th @ 6 pm @ parking lot at 43rd and Central Ave. in Columbia Heights (across the street from Filfillah Restaurant 4301 Central Ave NE) \nMay 15\, 1948 marks Al Nakba\, Arabic for The Catastrophe – the day Israel was declared an independent state in historic Palestine.  During the 1948 war\, at least 750\,000 Palestinians were ruthlessly attacked\, massacred\, and driven from their homes by Zionist terror groups.  In violation of international law\, these displaced people have never been allowed to return.  The year 2020 marks 72 years of U.S.-backed Israeli occupation and apartheid. \nDuring the current COVID-19 pandemic\, the Israeli government’s callous and deadly disregard for Palestinian lives is reaching new heights as it continues to deny basic medical safety equipment from getting to Palestinian hospitals\, which were already dangerously short of basic necessities like soap. And the Israeli government continues to shut off power to Gaza for huge parts of the day. \nThis is a critical moment to fight for Palestine & Palestinian rights\, and we need to keep up the pressure to demand an end to U.S. aid to Israel!  We have the opportunity to raise the demand of Free Palestine. Join us! \nWe mark Al-Nakba every year but this year we will protest under pandemic conditions and will therefore do it differently.  We will gather safely in our vehicles\, following social distancing guidelines\, to mark this important day and shed light on Israeli apartheid.  Please bring your own signs and Palestinian flags to decorate your cars.  We will gather at 43rd and Central  and then do a parade up and down Central Avenue to show our solidarity and pride in Palestine. \nSponsored by the Anti-War Committee and MN American Muslims for Palestine. \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:The Sanctions Kill Coalition Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The Sanctions Kill Coalition Webinar \nSaturday May 9\, 2020 — 4:00 PM EST\, 3:00 PM CST \nIran Is Also Participating: \n\nVenezuela — Carlos J. Ron Martinez\, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs \nSyria — Dr. Bashar Ja’afari\, Syrian Ambassador to the United Nations \nNicaragua — Francisco O Campbell\, Nicaraguan Ambassador to the U.S. \nCuba — Ana Silvia Rodriguez Abascal\, Charge des Affaires of the Cuban Mission to the UN \nZimbabwe — Dr. Frank Guni\, Secretary for Administration\, ZANU-PF North America \nIran — Majid Takht-Ravanchi\, Iranian Ambassador to the United Nations \nThe US has imposed economic sanctions against 39 countries. In many cases\, this denies them access to medicine and medical equipment as well as access to world markets for food and other necessities. During the coronavirus crisis the US\, with the highest death count in the world\, has upped the sanctions against countries like Iran and Venezuela\, and has tried to weaponize COVID-19 to bring down governments that will not follow the dictates of Washington and Wall Street. \nThe UN has asked that sanctions be loosened during this crisis but the US has done the opposite. Many US allies have broken with them and sent medical aid to some of these countries. Now is an important time for the people in the US to come out strongly against these sanctions\, which are simply war by other means. \nFor more information: https://sanctionskill.org/
