SUMMARY:Peace Vigil: End the Wars (and don’t start new ones)
DESCRIPTION:Peace Vigil:  End the Wars   (and don’t start new ones) – Bring the Troops Home Now!  End U.S. Wars in Syria\, Iraq\, Afghanistan\, Somalia\nWednesday\, January 23rd from 4:30 – 5:30 pm Lake Street/Marshall Avenue Bridge over the Mississippi River between Minneapolis & St. Paul \nPeople in the U.S. want an end to the endless wars. In December\, the Trump Administration announced a withdrawal of U.S. troops from Syria and Afghanistan. Since then the “withdrawal” has become a non withdrawal and there has been an escalation of U.S. bombing in Syria and a buildup of U.S. forces in Iraq. The only way wars end is when people mobilize to demand the troops be brought home. Sponsored by End War Committee of Women Against Military Madness and Twin Cities Peace Campaign. The call for the January 23 vigil is endorsed by: Anti-War Committee\, Every Church a Peace Church\, Freedom Road Socialist Organization\, Mayday Books\, Minnesota Peace Action Coalition\, Minnesota War Tax Resistance\, Rise Up Times\, St. Joan of Arc Peacemakers\, Socialist Action\, Veterans for Peace (chapter 27)\, Welfare Rights Committee and others. Speak out to welcome Honduran refugees! \nThursday\, December 20th @ 5pm outside Senator Klobuchar’s office at 1200 S Washington Ave\, Minneapolis (at the intersection of 35W and Washington Ave.)\nSenator Amy Klobuchar has announced that she is thinking of running for president. She is projecting herself as someone who is open to ‘compromises’ and that she is open to voting to partially fund Trump’s racist border wall. Congress will be voting again soon on a budget deal and we need to tell Klobuchar that not one penny should go to border militarization. We’ll be picketing in front of her office at the busy intersection of 35W and Washington Ave. Join us to say:\nWe welcome Honduran refugees!\nNo border wall!\nRefugees are welcome here!\nNo troops on the border!\nCo-Sponsored by MN Caravan Solidarity and the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen
DESCRIPTION:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen \nWednesday\, 12/5 – Thursday\, 12/6 ALL DAY \nCALL IN DAY! Tell Senators Amy Klobuchar & Tina Smith: “Stop the War on Yemen! End U.S. Aid and Weapons Sales to Saudi Arabia!” \nTina Smith: 202-224-5641 \nAmy Klobuchar: 202-224-3244 \nThe Intercept reports on November 29th “In a firm rebuke of President Donald Trump’s Saudi Arabia policy\, the Republican-controlled Senate voted 63-37 on Wednesday to advance a piece of legislation that would direct the president to withdraw U.S. forces from assisting the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen.” \nThe Mint Press reports that since 2015\, “the ongoing Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen has resulted in the death of 15\,185 civilians\, including 3\,527 children and 2\,277 women\, according to the Legal Center for Rights and Development in Yemen.” Civilians have been facing a serious humanitarian crisis due to a Saudi blockade of food and medical aid which has led the Yemeni people to live in widespread famine. The U.S. continues to provide support and sell arms to Saudi forces who have targeted everything from markets\, to schools\, school busses and homes\, all while refusing to denounce the inhumanity that has claimed so many civilian casualties.   \nThe murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul\, has caught the international community’s attention and given us an opportunity to kick up our challenge to the US-Saudi Arabia war in Yemen.  The Congress is finally questioning supporting this war – they NEED TO HEAR FROM US! Please call and encourage others to do so too! \nInitiated by the MN Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Say NO to US Intervention in Venezuela: Featuring Steve Ellner
DESCRIPTION:Say NO to US Intervention in Venezuela:  Featuring Steve Ellner\nSaturday\, November 10th at 5pm @ 4200 Cedar Avenue S. in Minneapolis\nThe Trump administration has Venezuela in its sights.  The Trump administration has banned visitors from through the Muslim ban\, place economic sanctions\, and is opening planning a coup of Venezuela.  Trumps wants to punish Venezuela for choosing a different path from US imperialism.  Meanwhile the US media talks about US intervention as if it would be “humanitarian” for the people of Venezuela.  \nSteve Ellner has taught economic history and political science at the Universidad de Oriente in Puerto La Cruz\, Venezuela since 1977.  He is on a national speaking tour to help the anti-war and the Latin America solidarity movement learn about the realities on the ground in Venezuela.  \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee and co-sponsored by the MN Immigrant Action Committee\, MN Peace Action Coalition\, & Women Against Military Madness.

SUMMARY:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen
DESCRIPTION:CALL IN DAY: #HandsOffYemen\nThursday\, November 1st – ALL DAY\nCALL IN DAY! Tell Senators Amy Klobuchar & Tina Smith: “Stop the War on Yemen! End U.S. Aid and Weapons Sales to Saudi Arabia!”\nTina Smith: 202-224-5641\nAmy Klobuchar: 202-224-3244 \nWe need to act now to oppose U.S. military aid and their support to Saudi Forces in the endless bombing assault on Yemen. With Saudi authorities now admitting to the October 2 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul\, Saudi Arabia’s atrocities are finally making mainstream news. Unfortunately\, we know these admissions aren’t meant to bring real accountability to the Saudi monarchy or its US political and corporate backers. Instead\, the Trump regime’s fake criticism of Saudi leaders is designed to draw attention from US support for Saudi Arabia’s ongoing brutal war on Yemen. Since 2015\, “the ongoing Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen has resulted in the death of 15\,185 civilians\, including 3\,527 children and 2\,277 women\, according to the Legal Center for Rights and Development in Yemen.” Civilians have been facing a serious humanitarian crisis due to a Saudi blockade of food and medical aid which has led the Yemeni people to live in widespread famine. SUMMARY:Civil Disobedience Training
DESCRIPTION:Civil Disobedience Training \nWednesday\, September 26th from 6-8pm at the U of M in Humphrey Room 184 (301 19th Ave S.)\, Minneapolis \nCivil Disobedience Training The Anti-War Committee has been protesting Trump’s racist Muslim ban since January 2017. This summer the Supreme Court sided with him and gave him the power to restrict countries under the pretext of “national security.” It is immoral to block refugees’ entry to the US when the US is escalating wars in those same refugees’ countries. The Muslim ban is a life or death issue to people in places like Somalia\, Yemen\, and Syria! We are thrilled to partner with Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) to help student activists gain experience. If you are interested in increasing the level of militancy of our movement against Trump and want to learn how to participate in a civil disobedience action\, please come to one of our trainings. Co-hosted by the AWC and sds UMN.

SUMMARY:Call Congress: Say NO to Sanctions on Iran!
DESCRIPTION:Call Congress:  Say NO to Sanctions on Iran! \nTuesday and Wednesday\, August 21 and 22 \n  \n\nSenator Tina Smith (202- 224-5641) \n\n\nSenator Amy Klobuchar (202-224-3244) \n\n  \n  \nThe Trump administration re-imposed sanctions against Iran on August 7th.  It is important to look at this action within the broader context of increasing antagonism by the U.S. towards Iran.  Particularly\, Trump has withdrawn the U.S. from participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)\, commonly known as the Iran Nuclear Deal\, and has met frequently with the Prime Minister of Israel who repeatedly calls for U.S. military aggression against Iran.   \n  \nThe U.S. also intervenes in the lives of Iranians by sabotaging Iran economically through sanctions.  These sanctions are collective punishment and are meant to push CIA-supported forces towards overthrowing the Iranian government.   Trump’s ban against Iranians wishing to travel and live in the U.S.\, another act of collective punishment\, is an anti-Muslim provocation.  The sanctions and the Muslim ban are part of\, and support\, the increasing military threats by the Trump administration. \n  \nPlease call Senator Tina Smith (202- 224-5641) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (202-224-3244) to tell them to resist Trump’s sanctions against Iran.  Demand that they take a stand against U.S. war and intervention on Iran.  They are both up for re-election and we should let them know that their foreign policy positions are important to us! \n  \nWe also encourage you to ask both Senators Smith and Klobuchar at the MN State Fair about their lack of resistance to Trump’s threats on Iran!

SUMMARY:Civil Disobedience Training
DESCRIPTION:Civil Disobedience Training\nWednesday\, August 15th @ 7pm @ 4200 Cedar Ave. Minneapolis\nWe have been protesting Trump’s racist Muslim ban since January 2017. This summer the Supreme Court sided with him and gave him the power to restrict countries under the pretext of “national security.” It is immoral to block refugees entry to the US when the US is escalating wars in their country. The Muslim ban is a life or death issue to people in places like Somalia\, Yemen\, and Syria! If you are interested in increasing the level of militancy of our movement against Trump and want to learn how to participate in a civil disobedience action please come to one of our trainings. Organized by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Movie: Killing Gaza
DESCRIPTION:WAMM Second Monday Movies present Killing Gaza\, a documentary\, on Monday\, July 9 at 4200 Cedar Ave So in Minneapolis. \n“A moralizing and heart-wrenching call to action”– McDill Daily \n(2018\, director: Max Blumenthal\, cinematographer: Dan Cohen\, 1 hr\, 37 mn) \nWhile giving voice to the pain of a people under siege\, Cohen and Blumenthal also highlighted Gazans’ inspiring acts of creative resistance\, from painting to break-dancing to literature\, that allow them to maintain their humanity in the face of deprivation and war. \nKilling Gaza is much more than a documentary about Palestinian resilience and suffering. It is a chilling visual document of war crimes committed by the Israeli military\, featuring direct testimony and evidence from the survivors\, delivered to them often just days after escaping indiscriminate shelling\, bombings and summary executions. \nCosponsored by the WAMM Middle East and Movie Committees and endorsed by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Court Solidarity - Defend the Right to Say Muslims Welcome!
DESCRIPTION:Show your solidarity with Mike Madden as he defends his right to say Muslims Welcome! \nWhen: Monday\, June 4th starting at 9 AM\nWhere: Hennepin County Government Center – 300 South 6th St\, Minneapolis \nMike Madden\, a long time member of Veterans for Peace Chapter 27\, will go on trial Monday\, June 4th to defend himself against the charge of Criminal Trespass at a Critical Public Service Facility. Madden was arrested in January of 2017 at the Minneapolis airport while protesting Trump’s Muslim Ban. Madden is facing a serious charge which carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and/or $3000 fine. The trial is expected to last 2-3 days. \nThe Minnesota Anti-War Committee (AWC) is calling on their supporters to pack the courtroom to show their support for Madden. Meredith Aby-Keirstead\, a member of the AWC explains\, “Mike was arrested for speaking out against Trump’s racist Muslim Ban. Holding a sign at the airport which says ‘Muslims Welcome’ is not a crime and it’s ridiculous that he is even being prosecuted. We are glad that Mike is taking this to trial because we need to defend our right to protest. Additionally\, in Trump’s America our right to speak out is critical and we cannot let it be criminalized. We call on our supporters to take the day off from work and come to court to show their support for Mike!” \nSupporters should show up at the Hennepin County Government Center\, 300 South 6th Street in Minneapolis\, on June 4th and check in at the information desk to find which courtroom Mike Madden’s trial will occur. Supporters are encouraged to be there by 9 AM but supporters are welcome to come for any part of the trial. \nFor more background read the City Pages’ article on Madden’s case:http://www.citypages.com/news/does-this-look-like-a-crime-to-you/439281883
