SUMMARY:Civil Disobedience Training
DESCRIPTION:Civil Disobedience Training \nWednesday\, September 26th from 6-8pm at the U of M in Humphrey Room 184 (301 19th Ave S.)\, Minneapolis \nCivil Disobedience Training The Anti-War Committee has been protesting Trump’s racist Muslim ban since January 2017. This summer the Supreme Court sided with him and gave him the power to restrict countries under the pretext of “national security.” It is immoral to block refugees’ entry to the US when the US is escalating wars in those same refugees’ countries. The Muslim ban is a life or death issue to people in places like Somalia\, Yemen\, and Syria! We are thrilled to partner with Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) to help student activists gain experience. If you are interested in increasing the level of militancy of our movement against Trump and want to learn how to participate in a civil disobedience action\, please come to one of our trainings. Co-hosted by the AWC and sds UMN.

SUMMARY:Call Congress: Say NO to Sanctions on Iran!
DESCRIPTION:Call Congress:  Say NO to Sanctions on Iran! \nTuesday and Wednesday\, August 21 and 22 \n  \n\nSenator Tina Smith (202- 224-5641) \n\n\nSenator Amy Klobuchar (202-224-3244) \n\n  \n  \nThe Trump administration re-imposed sanctions against Iran on August 7th.  It is important to look at this action within the broader context of increasing antagonism by the U.S. towards Iran.  Particularly\, Trump has withdrawn the U.S. from participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA)\, commonly known as the Iran Nuclear Deal\, and has met frequently with the Prime Minister of Israel who repeatedly calls for U.S. military aggression against Iran.   \n  \nThe U.S. also intervenes in the lives of Iranians by sabotaging Iran economically through sanctions.  These sanctions are collective punishment and are meant to push CIA-supported forces towards overthrowing the Iranian government.   Trump’s ban against Iranians wishing to travel and live in the U.S.\, another act of collective punishment\, is an anti-Muslim provocation.  The sanctions and the Muslim ban are part of\, and support\, the increasing military threats by the Trump administration. \n  \nPlease call Senator Tina Smith (202- 224-5641) and Senator Amy Klobuchar (202-224-3244) to tell them to resist Trump’s sanctions against Iran.  Demand that they take a stand against U.S. war and intervention on Iran.  They are both up for re-election and we should let them know that their foreign policy positions are important to us! \n  \nWe also encourage you to ask both Senators Smith and Klobuchar at the MN State Fair about their lack of resistance to Trump’s threats on Iran!

SUMMARY:Movie: Killing Gaza
DESCRIPTION:WAMM Second Monday Movies present Killing Gaza\, a documentary\, on Monday\, July 9 at 4200 Cedar Ave So in Minneapolis. \n“A moralizing and heart-wrenching call to action”– McDill Daily \n(2018\, director: Max Blumenthal\, cinematographer: Dan Cohen\, 1 hr\, 37 mn) \nWhile giving voice to the pain of a people under siege\, Cohen and Blumenthal also highlighted Gazans’ inspiring acts of creative resistance\, from painting to break-dancing to literature\, that allow them to maintain their humanity in the face of deprivation and war. \nKilling Gaza is much more than a documentary about Palestinian resilience and suffering. It is a chilling visual document of war crimes committed by the Israeli military\, featuring direct testimony and evidence from the survivors\, delivered to them often just days after escaping indiscriminate shelling\, bombings and summary executions. \nCosponsored by the WAMM Middle East and Movie Committees and endorsed by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Court Solidarity - Defend the Right to Say Muslims Welcome!
DESCRIPTION:Show your solidarity with Mike Madden as he defends his right to say Muslims Welcome! \nWhen: Monday\, June 4th starting at 9 AM\nWhere: Hennepin County Government Center – 300 South 6th St\, Minneapolis \nMike Madden\, a long time member of Veterans for Peace Chapter 27\, will go on trial Monday\, June 4th to defend himself against the charge of Criminal Trespass at a Critical Public Service Facility. Madden was arrested in January of 2017 at the Minneapolis airport while protesting Trump’s Muslim Ban. Madden is facing a serious charge which carries a maximum penalty of a year in jail and/or $3000 fine. The trial is expected to last 2-3 days. \nThe Minnesota Anti-War Committee (AWC) is calling on their supporters to pack the courtroom to show their support for Madden. Meredith Aby-Keirstead\, a member of the AWC explains\, “Mike was arrested for speaking out against Trump’s racist Muslim Ban. Holding a sign at the airport which says ‘Muslims Welcome’ is not a crime and it’s ridiculous that he is even being prosecuted. We are glad that Mike is taking this to trial because we need to defend our right to protest. Additionally\, in Trump’s America our right to speak out is critical and we cannot let it be criminalized. We call on our supporters to take the day off from work and come to court to show their support for Mike!” \nSupporters should show up at the Hennepin County Government Center\, 300 South 6th Street in Minneapolis\, on June 4th and check in at the information desk to find which courtroom Mike Madden’s trial will occur. Supporters are encouraged to be there by 9 AM but supporters are welcome to come for any part of the trial. \nFor more background read the City Pages’ article on Madden’s case:http://www.citypages.com/news/does-this-look-like-a-crime-to-you/439281883

SUMMARY:Al Nakba Protest: Say Yes to Palestinians’ Right of Return
DESCRIPTION:Al Nakba Protest: Say Yes to Palestinians’ Right of Return \nTuesday\, May 15th from 4:30-5:30 p.m.  \nSenator Klobuchar’s office\, along 1200 South Washington Avenue in Minneapolis \n\nLocal activists will gather to mark Al Nakba and to support Palestinian rights.History: May 15\, 1948\, marked the establishment of the state of Israel on Palestinian land. This day is called “Al Nakba\,” Arabic for “The Catastrophe.” During the 1948 war\, at least 750\,000 Palestinian men\, women\, and children were ruthlessly attacked\, massacred\, and driven from their homes into refugee camps and have never been allowed to return. This is in violation of international law!\nLast month\, Palestinians in Gaza announced The Great Return March\, a plan to engage in six weeks of nonviolent protest. Beginning on Land Day\, March 30\, and leading up to May 15\, the 70th anniversary of the Nakba. The demonstration involved camping out in tents along the northern and eastern edges of the Gaza Strip to highlight Palestinians’ right to return to their cities\, towns\, and villages from which they were expelled 70 years ago—a right enshrined in international law and UN General Assembly Resolution 1. \nIn response\, Israeli officials threatened lethal force and deployed more than 100 snipers. An estimated 30\,000 Palestinian men\, women and children participated on the first day of demonstrations. Despite the demonstrations remaining nonviolent\, Israeli soldiers opened fire on the unarmed protesters\, killing 17 and wounding more than 1\,400\, including 750 wounded with live ammunition. As of April 19\, 36 Palestinians had been killed and more than 4300 injured by the Israeli military attacks. \nThe US government remains silent on the brutal Israeli response and continues to send billions of dollars in military aid to the apartheid state. U.S. support of Israel’s vicious policies toward Palestine must end!\nEnd the Siege of Gaza! No to Aid to Israel!\nYes to Right of Return!\nEnd the Occupation!\nSay No to Moving US Embassy to Jerusalem!\n\nInitiated by Women Against Military Madness and endorsed by the AntiWar Committee.\nFor information call 612-827-5364

SUMMARY:Emergency Bannering: Stop US Support for Israeli Massacres!
DESCRIPTION:Emergency Bannering: Stop US Support for Israeli Massacres!\nTuesday\, 4/10 from 5:30-6:30 pm outside Senator Amy Klobuchar’s Office\, 1200 Washington Avenue South\, Minneapolis\, MN 55415\n\nApril 9th marks the 70th anniversary of Deir Yassin\, the Palestinian village where in 1948 100 men\, women\, and children were systematically murdered by Israeli commandos. Every year Palestinians across the world mark Deir Yassin and demand the right to return to their homeland. This year however Deir Yassin coincides with a growing resistance movement in Gaza and an ongoing brutal Israeli military response. Join us to stand in solidarity with Palestine and to demand an end to U.S. support for Israel’s war crimes! As the U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights explains\, “The tragedy lies not only in the killing of Palestinians\, but in the responses of Israel and the United States to this massacre…The message that Israel and the United States have sent is that Palestinian lives are dispensable\, unworthy of any investigation\, even when it is clear that their lives were taken unlawfully. …This is why the time has come for an arms embargo and sanctions against apartheid Israel\, similar to the arms embargo that was imposed by the United Nations against apartheid South Africa.” Let’s send a message to the MN Congressional delegation of support for a Free Palestine! \nOrganized by the Anti-War Committee. \n

SUMMARY:Palestine Land Day Protest
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, March 30th from 5-6pm at the intersection of Summit and Snelling in St. Paul \nOn March 30\, Palestinians around the world will commemorate Land Day\, a day in 1976 when Israeli military forces shot and killed 6 young Palestinian. These brave youth were among thousands protesting the Israeli government’s expropriation of Palestinian land. \nThis Land Day will again see Palestinians across the world protest for the right to return and for freedom for their homeland. This year the world’s attention to the plight of Palestinians has been heightened because of the international movement in solidarity with Ahed Tamimi. \nOn December 19\, 2017\, 16-year-old Ahed Tamimi was arrested by Israeli occupation troops when they raided her house in the middle of the night. She remains detained indefinitely and is accused of having slapped an IDF soldier while attempting to defend herself\, her family and her country. \nOver 12\,000 Palestinian children have been arrested since 2000! No child should be thrown into a military prison without a fair trial\, denied access to parents or lawyers\, and be subjected to abuse. Join with us on Land Day to say Free Palestine and Free Ahed Tamimi! \nCo-sponsored by the WAMM Middle East Committee and the Anti-War Committee

SUMMARY:Day of Action
DESCRIPTION:As a day of action\, we’re asking people to call in & write in to the UMN Board of Regents to demand they adhere to their socially responsible investments policy\, listen to student voices\, and divest. \nYou can contact the Board of Regents here: https://regents.umn.edu/board-office/contact\nhttps://regents.umn.edu/about-board/meet-regents\nPhone: 612-625-6300\nFax: 612-624-3318 \nYou can contact the office of the president here:\nupres@umn.edu \nOur template for emails/calls: \nHello\, \nI am [an undergraduate student\, graduate student\, community member\, etc] of the University of Minnesota\, Twin Cities. I am calling/writing in support of the UMN Divest movement. Two weeks ago\, the students of the University of Minnesota voted in favor of a referendum put forth by UMN Divest. \nThe referendum question stated: Should the students of the University of Minnesota demand the Board of Regents divest from companies that are 1) complicit in Israeli violations of Palestinian human rights\, 2) maintaining and establishing private prisons and immigration detention centers\, or 3) violating indigenous sovereignty? \nRecently\, the Socially Responsible Investments (SRI) policy was proposed to change to say “the University shall consider environmental\, social\, and governance responsibilities in its investments.” This change in policy\, along with the growing number of students and community members demanding for divestment through the UMN Divest campaign\, demonstrates the need for the Board of Regents to meet the demands of the students they serve. We demand the Board of Regents hold a public form to establish a divestment plan and discuss all of our concerns. \n[for student/faculty members] When I accepted an offer from the University of Minnesota to become a part of this academic community\, I did not co-sign for the University to be a partner in oppressing marginalized communities. You must recognize that in investing in corporations complicit in the human rights violations of Palestinians\, the expansion of the prison industrial complex\, and violations of Indigenous sovereignty\, you are also investing in the ongoing oppression of many members of the University community\, especially students marginalized along the lines of race\, Indigeneity and class. As a member of the University of Minnesota community committed to anti-oppression work\, I urge you to divest now. I refuse to let the blood on your hands stain my own.

SUMMARY:Protest: #HandsOffKorea
DESCRIPTION:Thursday\, February 22nd @ 4:30 PM @ Amy Klobuchar’s Office\, 1200 Washington Ave S\, Minneapolis \nDemand that she take action to stop the U.S. from hurling itself towards catastrophic war with Korea! \n“Most Americans don’t realize how close we are to this war…” \n-Sen. Tammy Duckworth\, December 2017 \nWe need to act now to oppose the U.S. government and its senseless threats of war against North Korea.  North and South Korea are struggling to honor the tradition of the Olympics as a time of truce by taking steps towards reconciliation through a unified Olympics team and flag\, and towards a thawing of hostilities.  Meanwhile\, the U.S. continues to do everything it can to block potential peace by maintaining  and expanding threats of war against North Korea. Korea has a right to self-determination. The Trump regime needs to stand down\, end U.S. war preparations  on the Korean peninsula and not add the deaths of millions of Koreans to the administration’s already bloody tally.
