SUMMARY:Say No to the Targeting of Somali Youth: Press Conference and Demonstration
DESCRIPTION:Say No to the Targeting of Somali Youth: Press Conference and Demonstration\nWednesday\, November 16th @ 3:30 @ Federal Building @ 300 S 4th Street\, Minneapolis \n\nSupport the Somali youth Mohamed Farah\, Abdirahman Daud and Guled Omar\, and their families on the day the 3 will be sentenced. The three young men were convicted for being a part of a plot to travel to Syria In a nation in the grips of a post-9/11 culture of anti-Muslim bigotry. the “conspiracy” was said to involve at least 10 young Somali men (some still in their teens)\, all residents of the Twin Cities. The 3 youth refused to bow to the enormous pressure of the federal prosecutor to plead guilty to the charges and the threat of possible life sentences They put their fates in the hands of a jury. The case was built on entrapment by an FBI informant\, a sting operation set up by the FBI\, lurid videos of ISIS brutality and guilt by association. They were convicted in June by a federal jury . Sentencing is for the 3 will be on Wednesday\, November 16th. Mohamed Farah will appear at 9AM\, Abdirahman Daud at 11 and Guled Omar at 1 pm. Join us for a press conference and demonstration at 3:30pm to support the youth\, their families and the Somali community following Guled Omar’s sentencing. On Nov 14 and 15 also at 9 am\, 11AM and 1pm\, the 6 other youth who pled guilty will be sentenced. The court proceedings will be in the court room on the 15th floor and are open. SUMMARY:Week of Actions: JusticeThruJamar
DESCRIPTION:Week of Actions:  JusticeThruJamar\nSunday\, November 13th – Saturday\, November 19th\nOn November 15th\, 2015\, 24-year old Jamar Clark was shot in the head within 61 seconds during an encounter with two Minneapolis police officers Schwarze and Ringgenberg. In the 18 days that followed\, community members occupied the Fourth Precinct police station in North Minneapolis\, demanding justice and calling for the prosecution of the two officers that killed Jamar Clark. One year later\, we are still calling for justice. \nHennepin County Prosecutor Mike Freeman failed to charge the killer cops. He justified his decision with a series of lies. He told the public that Jamar had been involved in a domestic violence matter the police were responding to. This is a PROVEN LIE. He claimed that Jamar was acting aggressively\, resisting arrest and trying to take an officer’s gun. But these LIES weren’t backed up by his video “evidence\,” or the accounts of two dozen Black eyewitnesses. \nEverything about this system tries to take justice out of our hands; everything about our movement aims to win back that power\, and see justice. James Clark said of his son\, “There can never be justice for Jamar\, but maybe we can win justice through Jamar.” Our hearts go out to both sides of Jamar’s family\, and all those who loved him. Thousands of people in Minneapolis and beyond have been forever changed. One year later\, join us for a week of actions\, as we still fight for Jamar Clark\, alongside all those lives stolen by police crimes against our communities. \n\nWeek of Action:\nNorthside Rally & March for #JusticeThruJamar \nSunday 11/13 @ 2pm:2pm @ Broadway & Lyndale   \nFFI:  https://www.facebook.com/events/1297896873595570/ \n \nCall-in to Mike Freeman\nMonday 11/14 ALL DAY\nFFI:   https://www.facebook.com/events/269054186823653 Candlelight vigil \n \nCandlelight vigil for #JusticeThruJamar\nTuesday 11/15 @ 5pm @  James & Plymouth https://www.facebook.com/events/601998670004093/  \n \n#FreemanFriday “Injustice to one is injustice to all”\nFriday 11/18:  Noon @ Hennepin County Government Center https://www.facebook.com/events/331401053887128/ \n \nCommunity Day \nSaturday 11/19: Noon to 4pm\, Harrison Park\, Minneapolis\nFFI:  https://www.facebook.com/events/210839102680849/ \n\nOrganized by the Twin Cities Coalition for Justice for Jamar and endorsed by the Anti-War Committee.

SUMMARY:Movie Showing: 5 Broken Cameras
DESCRIPTION:Movie Showing: 5 Broken Cameras\nThursday\, October 27th @ 7pm @ U of MN\, Hanson Hall Room 1-106 on the West Bank\, 1925 4th Street S.\, Minneapolis\nAcademy Award nominated film 5 Broken Cameras is a Palestinian farmer’s chronicle of his community’s nonviolent resistance to the actions of the Israeli army. When film director\, Emad Burnat\, flew into LA for the Academy Awards he was detained and harassed by US immigration officials. He said\, “All the Palestinians get the same treatment in our country\, in our home and in different countries. So it’s not normal for a human to be treated like this for all our lives\, or for our kids. So I am seeking for peace and for freedom for my kids. And I want them to be treated like humans\, not because we are Palestinians that we should get bad treatment or different treatment.”\nMark your calendar: The director’s brother\, Iyad Burnat\, who appears in the film\, will speak in the Twin Cities in November 17-19. Details TBA.\nHosted by the Anti-War Committee with Students for a Democratic Society and Students for Justice in Palestine. \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/585587964947097/ \n

SUMMARY:Court Solidarity for Somali Youth Entrapped by the FBI
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the federal courthouse throughout the trial of local Muslim youth from the Somali community entrapped by the FBI. Guled\, Abdirahman\, and Mohammed are beloved sons\, brothers\, students\, and breadwinners for their families. We will stand with these young men’s families and denounce the Dept. of Justice’s entrapment\, surveillance\, and terror baiting of the Somali community. This case is part of an ongoing organized attack against the East African community facing rising levels of Islamophobia\, xenophobia\, and racism and government repression. \nSIGN UP FOR A COURT SUPPORT SHIFT HERE – http://goo.gl/forms/L4isRyTYIz \nWe’ll use the comments on this event page to post information you need to know each day. \nIN GENERAL: \nThe trial is being held in 13E (13th floor\, court room E)\, and the overflow room has been changing floors by the day. We will try to post each day where overflow is\, though the court marshalls can also tell you. \n** Getting into the court room **\nWhen you arrive\, head in through the front turn-stile doors\, and wait in line on the left unless they are letting the public through with no line. Please respect family members wishes about who should be at the front of the line to ensure they get into the main courtroom. Dept of Homeland Security police have been aggressive with members of the Somali community throughout the trial. Please note that taking pictures of recordings of this abusive treatment is not allowed in a federal building. You will then go through a security checkpoint that includes scanning any personal items and walking through a metal detector. Proceed to the elevators and up to the court room. \n** What to (not) bring **\nLap tops and back packs are not allowed through security unless you’re press\, although messenger bags are allowed. To state the obvious\, do not bring pocket knives\, pepper spray\, or other weapons with you. You may bring in water bottles/snacks as long as they are in your bag. \n** How to act in court room **\nCompletely turn off your cell phone prior to entering the court room. There’s no talking in the overflow or court room\, and even gesturing can get you kicked out. Do not assume people present are all supporters. We’ve had the pleasure of sitting next to a hefty crew of FBI agents for much of the trial thus far in the overflow room. If possible\, make it clear you stand with the Somali community by sitting next to folks also there to support. We also encourage people to wear casual street attire. \n** A note on security **\nIn an attempt to intimidate the Somali community and jurors\, the government has called out bomb sniffing dogs at times in the lobby\, has had both suited up and undercover Dept of Homeland Security police surrounding the building and on the light rail\, and has had multiple Minneapolis police SUV’s parked outside. These are classic scare tactics. We will not be intimidated!

\nIN GENERAL: \nThe trial is being held in 13E (13th floor\, court room E)\, and the overflow room is 14E (14th floor\, court room E). \nMore info at the facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/AntiwarMN/photos/gm.272677239743094/1227535730598206/?type=3&theater
