We will try to post each day where overflow is\, though the court marshalls can also tell you. \n** Getting into the court room **\nWhen you arrive\, head in through the front turn-stile doors\, and wait in line on the left unless they are letting the public through with no line. Please respect family members wishes about who should be at the front of the line to ensure they get into the main courtroom. Dept of Homeland Security police have been aggressive with members of the Somali community throughout the trial. Please note that taking pictures of recordings of this abusive treatment is not allowed in a federal building. You will then go through a security checkpoint that includes scanning any personal items and walking through a metal detector. Proceed to the elevators and up to the court room. \n** What to (not) bring **\nLap tops and back packs are not allowed through security unless you’re press\, although messenger bags are allowed. To state the obvious\, do not bring pocket knives\, pepper spray\, or other weapons with you. You may bring in water bottles/snacks as long as they are in your bag. \n** How to act in court room **\nCompletely turn off your cell phone prior to entering the court room. There’s no talking in the overflow or court room\, and even gesturing can get you kicked out. Do not assume people present are all supporters. We’ve had the pleasure of sitting next to a hefty crew of FBI agents for much of the trial thus far in the overflow room. If possible\, make it clear you stand with the Somali community by sitting next to folks also there to support. We also encourage people to wear casual street attire. \n** A note on security **\nIn an attempt to intimidate the Somali community and jurors\, the government has called out bomb sniffing dogs at times in the lobby\, has had both suited up and undercover Dept of Homeland Security police surrounding the building and on the light rail\, and has had multiple Minneapolis police SUV’s parked outside. These are classic scare tactics. We will not be intimidated!

SUMMARY:Rally for Entrapped Somali Youth
DESCRIPTION:Thursday May 12th @ 4:30\nFederal Court house\n4th St and 4th Ave Minneapolis \nThe eyes of the nation are on the trial of the 3 Somali youth facing life sentences on “terrorism” charges. In this dangerous political time of xenophobia\, racism and anti-islam hatred espoused by extremists and even political candidates\, the youths’ chances for a fair trial are greatly diminished.   The media is contributing to this climate by  sensationalizing their reports constantly referring to the ISIL trial. It is important the public understands these youth were entrapped by the FBI in an effort to justify to us they are “making us safer.”  Community members and the antiwar movement  stands with the families and the community to oppose\, political repression and FBI targeting of the Muslim community.  An injury to one is an injury to all.

DESCRIPTION:Friday\, April 1st @ 1:30 pm @ Federal Building\, 300 S 4th St\, Minneapolis \nHassan Ali Mohamud Jami\, a member of the defense team of Mohamed Farah – one of the 5 Somali youth to soon go on trial in an ISIS recruitment case\, is now himself a target of government attacks. In an outrageous attempt to discredit him and disrupt the defense of Farah\, the prosecution is planning to introduce evidence that Jami “is referenced by a co-conspirator apparently preaching about jihad and related topics.” \nMohamud\, the first Somali to graduate from a Minnesota law school and the founder and Imam/director of Minnesota Da’wah Institute\, also works as an Immigration Law Project Advocate at the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis and is an adjunct professor at the William Mitchell College of Law. He has been an effective spokesman and critic of the harsh repression\, infiltration and surveillance of the Somali community by the U.S. government and worked with the Anti-War Committee and other peace groups in organizing the 2008 March on the RNC protest.  Mohamud called the government allegations false and said\, “it’s all about politics.”

The US has played a consistent role in supporting the Colombian right wing government in their dirty war through military aid and advisors – frequently sold to the American public as part of the “war on drugs” or the “war on terror”. \nIn 2012 the Colombian government and the FARC (the oldest and largest rebel group) sat down in Havana\, Cuba to negotiate an end to the war.  One of the main demands from the FARC has been for Simon Trinidad\, also known in Colombia as Ricardo Palmera\, to be released from US custody.  Trinidad is one of the FARC’s lead diplomats.  CounterPunch reports\, “Simon Trinidad was a leader of the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) with responsibilities for political education\, financial overview\, and peace negotiations. He participated with the FARC in talks with the Colombian government in 1998-2002. In Ecuador prior to his capture in January 2004 – with CIA help – he was preparing to meet with United Nations representative James Lemoyne to review the situation of FARC prisoners of war.”  Many have seen his imprisonment in solitary confinement in a Colorado Supermax as a barrier to peace. \nIn September both sides announced a transitional justice process and a deadline for the guerrilla group to start disarming which\, according to the New York Times\, “means that an end to the conflict now appears within reach.”  Is this true? \nCome hear from Anti-War Committee members who have travelled to Colombia and will be going back soon. DESCRIPTION:Join us Wednesday Jan 13th\nAt the public safety center (aka jail) for our pretrail hearing\, and show support for Palestine solidarity activists facing charges for protesting Israeli military ethicist Moshe Halbertal’s talk at the University of Minnesota Law School. The Anti-War Committee was notified that the legal director for national Zionist organization StandWithUs has been in communication with the city attorney’s office\, calling for prosecution to the full extent of the law. StandWithUs have also organized witnesses to testify against protesters\, providing contact information for both the founder and sitting president of the U of M’s Students in Support of Israel (SSI) who helped organize the talk. Both have agreed to testify against protesters if so called. StandWithUs also highlighted activities of protesters who were not arrested\, insinuating additional people should be charged.
