Klobuchar – Stand Up & Say NO to US Intervention in Venezuela
Klobuchar – Stand Up & Say NO to US Intervention in Venezuela
Speech by Christine Hauschildt, Anti-War Committee member, on 3/16/2019 at protest outside Senator Klobuchar’s office
Since the U.S.’s recognition of Juan Guido as Venezuela’s interim president, the U.S. has been taking
increasingly hostile measures against the Venezuelan people – intensifying sanctions, influencing right-
wing allied nations in the region, sending weapons disguised as aid, and caused a devastating country-
wide electricity blackout that lasted a week, limiting access to clean water and safe medical care.
We are concerned with the overwhelming negative impact that the US intervention has had on the
safety and security of the Venezuelan people. Senator Amy Klobuchar does not share that concern.
Klobuchar is keeping her head down and not challenging the unjust actions of the Trump Administration.
Instead, Klobuchar supports the destabilizing a foreign, elected leader through U.S. intervention.
Klobuchar claims to be a proponent of democracy. She is a democratic party member but does not
respect democratic elections in a foreign county. Instead, she is in support of destabilizing Venezuelan
President Maduro, an elected leader. In a recent interview with Tampa Bay Times, Klobuchar labels
Maduro a “dictator” who needs to be pushed to end his “reign of terror”. This statement is flippant and
lead us to believe that she would support US military intervention in Venezuela.
Klobuchar’s voting record shows continued support for U.S. Military actions and she recently voted
against withdrawing U.S. troops in Syria – which is something her and Donald Trump have in common.
In typical centrist, protectionist fashion, Klobuchar was quoted as saying “I think you have to leave all
possibilities on the table” regarding U.S. intervention in Venezuela. Will she continue to support U.S.
intervention in Venezuela? Will she let it escalate into a military invasion? Senator Klobuchar as we
know her is a hawk who will jump for military action instead of diplomatic solutions.
The Anti-War Committee stands with the Venezuelan people against U.S. intervention in Venezuela and
have spoken out through a petition. We have sent three installments of petitions to Senator Klobuchar
over the past few months and have received zero response from her. She is shamefully more focused on
her presidential candidacy than the concerns of her constituents. If she were listening to us, she would know that we are against at her actions and demand and end to US escalation in Venezuela! We are demand Klobuchar hear our voices and end her support of intervention in Venezuela! Senator Klobuchar: keep the US out of Venezuela!
HANDS OFF VENEZUELA! HANDS OFF VENEZUELA! HANDS OFF VENEZUELA!
