Support the Anti-War Committee

Dear Supporters,

This has been both an inspiring and challenging year for organizing for peace and justice.  We hope that you are doing well and staying safe during this pandemic.  We are proud of the work we have been able to do during this challenging year, and want to take this opportunity to reflect on 2020 with you.

Free Palestine!

Our main campaign this year has centered around ending U.S. military aid to Israel and showing solidarity with social movements in Palestine.  We have organized protests (including our first car protest!), visibility bannerings, and online panels to raise the level of political consciousness about Palestine.

Black Lives Matter!

We were devastated by the murder of George Floyd and have continued to show up in support for the Black Lives Matter movement. We spent hundreds of hours helping to marshal protests this summer and organizing training events to build up a new generation of marshals.   We joined a coalition of groups calling for the city of Minneapolis to adopt CPAC (Civilian Police Accountability Council) which would provide for community control of the police and accountability for police crimes.  CPAC would give hiring, firing and budget control to the people instead of do-nothing mayors and city councils.  We will continue to support this important upsurge in organizing and to make connections to our anti-war work.

Climate Justice Now!

Despite the fact that the U.S. military is a serious polluter and plays a significant role in worsening climate change, neither party is talking about the need to reign in military carbon emissions. Nor are environmental groups focusing on this issue.  The Anti-War Committee founded the Climate Justice Committee this winter so we could increase our involvement in the environmental movement and have a platform to talk about the role the Pentagon plays in climate change.  You can follow our new committee on social media @climatejusticeMN.

We know that the current pandemic and economic crisis have hit many of our supporters hard.  This has meant that some of you aren’t able to come to in-person events, and that some are not able to financially support our work right now.  If that is the case for you, we welcome your solidarity in whatever form it takes.  However, if you are able to be active, we want to let you know about two ways you can support the Anti-War Committee:

  • Come to our annual Human Rights Day protest on Saturday, December 12, at 1pm at May Day Plaza (in front of May Day Books, 301 Cedar Ave. S.) in Minneapolis to demand the U.S. respect human rights at home and abroad.
  • Send us a donation to continue our organizing. You can send us a check at Anti-War Committee, 4200 Cedar Ave. S. #4, Minneapolis, MN 55407. Or, you can make a one-time or ongoing donation by clicking on “donate” at www.antiwarcommittee.org.  All proceeds go to supporting our grassroots activism.

Thank you for your support and stay safe!

Peace with justice,

the Anti-War Committee
