Tell Target To Stop Supporting Israeli Occupation!

sodastream-protestJoin with us to boycott Soda Stream!

Statement for Pride, 2013
The MN Coalition for Palestinian Rights, Jewish Voice for Peace and the Anti-War Committee demand that Target pull SodaStream off their shelves. SodaStream is a new product which turns tap water into seltzer. It is made in Ma’aleh Adumim, an illegal Israeli settlement on Palestine’s West Bank. For over 40 years, Israel has occupied the West Bank as well as the Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem. The Occupation means that the Israeli military has total authority over every part of Palestinian life in these areas. SodaStream is currently the subject of a boycott of an interfaith coalition, consisting of representatives of Jewish, Christian and Muslim organizations.

We are calling on Target to discontinue selling SodaStream products because SodaStream is “in violation of internation al law and in violation of Target’s ethical standards and Social Compliance Program:”

• Target states that it “will not work with business partners who use deceptive practices to deliberately misrepresent country of origin.” Yet, SodaStream’s products are labeled “Made in Israel,” concealing the fact that they are made in an illegal settlement on the West Bank, an area which the United States does not recognize as part of the state of Israel.

• Target states that “Fair wages and benefits must be provided in compliance with local law.” However, SodaStream’s factory workers suffer from harsh working conditions, including pay well below the minimum wage despite their entitlement under Israeli law to the same rights as Israeli workers.

• The construction of hundreds of settlement in the West Bank, such as the one where SodaStream is located, have been condemned by the International Court of Justice in the Hague, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and numerous human rights organizations, including Amnesty International, for violating international humanitarian law and Palestinians’ human rights.

Take Action: Call Target CEO Gregg Steinhafel at 612-304-6073 and demand SodaStream be discontinued.
