The Arab Revolution Unfolds: is Iraq Next?
with speaker Sami Rasouli
Iraqi-American peace activist and founder of the Muslim Peacemaker Teams (Najaf, Iraq), Sami will be returning to Iraq next week after spending time in Minnesota. He is helping to organize future protests in Iraq through participation in Facebook groups.
Demonstrations were held in Baghdad on February 14 to protest Iraqi government corruption and the lack of jobs and social services.
These protests are part of the political and social revolution sweeping the Arab states and the world.
Iraqis report that U.S. forces joined Iraqi police and military units in harassing the February 14 protests. More demonstrations are being planned in Iraq in the days and weeks ahead.
Come to a briefing on the developing situation in Iraq. Sami will address some of the following questions:
- After the revolutionary events in Tunisia and Egypt, is Iraq next?
- What are conditions in Iraq today?
- How are events in Tunisia and Egypt impacting the people of Iraq?
- What is the role of young people organizing in Iraq today?
- What is the role of the U.S. in Iraq today?
