St. Paul (east side) of the Lake Street/Marshall Ave bridge over the Mississippi River.
Representatives of several Twin Cities area peace and anti-war groups will make statements on developments in Afghanistan.
Representatives from Women Against Military Madness, Anti-War Committee, Veterans for Peace will make brief statements.
The event will be held at 5:45 pm Wednesday, August 18 on the St. Paul (east side) of the Lake Street/Marshall Ave bridge over the Mississippi River. The 5:45 press event will be at the end of the weekly peace vigil held on the bridge every Wednesday afternoon.
A statement issued by organizers says, “The war in Afghanistan has ended in a spectacular disaster for the U.S. government, but this war was a disaster all along for the people of Afghanistan. U.S. intervention was never about human rights, freedom or fighting terrorism, but using the events of 9/11/2001 as an excuse to intervene around the world.”
“U.S. bombs, drones and troops have brought nothing to the people of Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Somalia and elsewhere. The U.S. is out of Afghanistan and must get out and stay out of not only Afghanistan but all the other victimized countries of the so-called ‘war on terror.'”
